My Progress Thread - We Will Triumph

Mathew I’ve been using some QAS and online course. I will review the BB at least once before the test.

Okay so I started taking the other two CR sections when I realized that I’ve taken it before. Although I don’t remember exact questions, the passages are inherently familiar. I got -2 on the second section and -1 on the third section. I guess that’s okay for a test I’ve taken before but they were sections chock full of level 4/5 questions.

Some vocabulary now, a full length practice test tomorrow.

Satsarecool, yea your fine unless you make silly mistakes, which can really kill your overall score. I know, it sucks.

Yeah it’s so hard to study to prevent careless errors. But based on my chung’s performance I should be able to get 750+? Bc that’s really all I “need”, I want an 800 obviously

aiming for the 2400 yall

Ughh. I woke up late and felt horrible. I think I’m coming down with something. No practice tests today. Tomorrow morning for sure…hopefully.

I’ll do some practice sections and update later.

Did some practice didn’t go so well. Bombed the writing. There are still some topics I’m confused in (that accursed diction) and I need to find some strategies on the improving paragraphs section.

My CR is “improving” as in I understand the questions and passages better but there are still some room for improvement.

No Math today.

Tomorrow’s Practice test goal:
Math - 800
CR - 700
Writing - 750

I want to achieve this score before September so that I still have a month to solidify my skills and work on anything else I need.

Sleep ahoy!

Increased from 1900s (June) to mid 2100s, consistently.
CR: 640
M: 750
W: 760

Keep missing two on math.

Results from morning’s test:

Math: 760
CR: 690
Writing: 750

Total: 2200

Not bad but I can do better. I bombed 1 reading section but did amazing on the others. 4 of my CR mistakes were from short reading passages(ouch). The reading was overall a bit harder than usual. There was a math problem I genuinely got wrong because I didn’t know how to do it. For writing, like I said before, there are some topics I still need to review.

I’ll study some vocabulary tonight and review all my mistakes and maybe work on my essay tomorrow.

Did anyone else do a practice test this weekend?

Woo all these math scores are so high and then you look at the critical reading.

20Summer08, I heard PWN the SAT math guide was good, as well as dr.chungs sat book. And everyone can also use studyisland for any subject sat prep. I haven’t gotten to it yet, but si helped me with bio a lot.

I’ll break the trend.

June SAT:

770 CR/650 M/720 W (w/ 8 essay… so close to, if not, 100% on the MC)

Practice test (#2 in BB) that I just took: 640 M w/ 4 wrong & 8 omit.

Goal by August 31st: idc about CR / 700 M / idc about W
Goal by September 24th: idc about CR / 740 M / 750+ W

October SAT Goal: xxx/740 M/750 W… 1510/2260

Hi everyone! I just discovered this thread and I am also planning to take the October SAT.

As for my background with the SAT:
I started out the summer extremely motivated, but I was away basically from the middle of July until a few days ago so I’ve been slacking on the SAT studying. I subscribed to the CB online course and have been using those tests for most of the summer, as well as official practice tests and the blue book. While my scores were consistently improving in June and beginning of July, they are now starting to decline.

My score is generally in the high 2200/low 2300 range, with CR as my lowest score (~700), writing around 780-800, and math usually 800, but with some occasional mistakes.

I’m really aiming for 2400 in October, but as it gets closer I am growing more and more nervous that my score will not improve. I’ve considered taking November instead of October, but I’m hoping not to. I am only a junior, so I still have time to retake, but I’d really like to take the test in October and get it over with.

My plan for the last few weeks of summer (I go back on Sept.5) is to memorize lots of vocab, keep practicing for passage-based CR, perfect writing mc, and develop a formula for essay-writing. It’s a lot for only a couple weeks, but hopefully I can get my score to the upper 2300s by the time I go back to school!

Hello, I’ve posted a couple times on this thread already but I wanted to share my progress.

I’ve taken the SAT twice so far, January and March 2013. My superscore from these two attempts is 800CR/700M/720W

I was disappointed in my math score, as I had gotten 760+ on my mocks. I took the 700 as a wake-up call to rev up my prepping. Because I had subject tests, however, I couldn’t begin prep until this summer. In the beginning of the summer I took a mock test and got 740CR/740M/750W which I was pleased with. So far I have worked through the PWN the sat guide and the chung’s tips. I have now begun to work through all of the practice tests in the chung’s. These days I am usually getting around 1 wrong per section, which I think bodes well for the regular SAT math. I routinely finish sat math sections with 10+ minutes remaining.

In terms of writing, my real problem is the essay. I received an 8 in January and a 9 in March. If I had had a double digit essay score, I would’ve most likely scored 750+. To preserve my mc skills I have worked through most of the ultimate sat grammar guide. I have recently begun to work on improving my SAT essay writing abilities.

My goal for the October Sat is a 770+ math score(preferably 800) and the same for writing. I believe my goal of 2350+ is within reach as long as I keep up my intensity. I hope to take another full mock test soon.

If anybody has any ideas of ways to get myself to the 800 level in math and/or writing, please share.

@satsarecool . Please help me out with CR . How do i crack it ? Does memorizing alot of vocabulary helps ? Which book should i use for the cr prep ?( i currently have barrons & princetons R 11 practice tests … and DH , WS and barrons vocabulary lists ) . Just give general prep tips and helpful info . I ll appreciate that
P.S : badly need a 650+

@satsarecool
For math and writing, I usually redo the section and read every problem twice just to make sure I’m not making a silly mistake.

Does anyone have tips for CR? Currently stuck in low 700’s/high 600’s :(

CR help much needed here .

Anybody help !
@satsarecool @medicalboy
anyone ?

@satsarecool Sat’s are not cool. How long did it take you to get through pwn the sat math and dr. chungs? I want to start one of those books but i don’t want to waste my time if i’m not improving you know?

Also, does anybody know how to get through the passage based questions?? I hate answering those questions, and even more, that passage. The whole time all I’m thinking is what the f am I reading?

Anyone who has trouble with reading, have you read Noiterperp’s How to attack the Critical Reading section effectively? If not, that should be your first step. After reading it, report back here. A quick google search will do.

This morning did one 35 question writing section timed and got four wrong and one 19 q critical reading and three wrong. Later this evening did the ten minute section and thirty-five minute section timed and got 12 wrong a 600. On the real test i took i got 650. I am annoyed at this range within the span of one day but i guess i should just hit the grammer guide some more. Anyone use the kaplan 12 tests how accurate is it? I took a 2nd critical reading section and got 2 wrong it was also a 20 minute one.
