Navigating Freshman Year Academics

I’ve been reading a lot about Duke’s GenEd requirements and they seem very doable, but I’m not sure how to map out the next four years in order to get maximum return for my time at Duke. I’d like to get at least one minor, maybe two. Does anyone have any advice on choosing classes and planning out how to meet all requirements in a timely manner? I’m looking forward to talking to my advisor but I was just wondering if anyone had any tips. Thanks!

  1. Choose the freshman seminar in an area you're LEAST likely to major/minor in.
  2. Check the prerequisites for your major/minors of interest and complete the prerequisite courses that overlap.

@MBVLoveless thank you for you help! Why should you choose the seminar in an area you’re least likely to focus on?

The freshmen seminars offered are really diverse; I took a seminar class on the history of Chinese medicine, which turned out to be my favorite class of my freshman year. I would take advantage of the freshman seminar to explore new horizons.
