NC State 2014 Remaining Hopes

Hi, i'm a high school student in NC and I recently applied to NC State for Bio-medical Engineering. Sadly I was deferred. Can anyone tell me my chances of still getting in or give me tips?
Here are my stats:
Weighted GPA- 4.46
Unweighted GPA 3.46
I'm in the top 10% of my class 560 class size
SAT 1800 Cr 580 Math 670 writing 550
I have played one sport all four years and have several volunteering experiences
I'm a white Male

Any help is appreciated! Thank you!

PS- I'm currently applying to Clemson, UNC Charlotte, UNC Wilmington, and Virginia Tech so any thoughts or tips for those colleges are appreciated

Honestly, I’m not sure why you were deferred. You’re a very strong candidate. UNCW and UNCC are shoe-ins. The only one you have to worry about instate is Carolina. It really depends on the competition and talent of this year’s applicant pool. Which is your first choice?

Call them and switch to a different major, then if you get in you can get into Engineering sophomore year

Thanks for the reply! Yes the deferment was a shock to me too. I think the reason is because I took the sat in October and November and i got a 1600 in October then my 1800. I don’t know if they got to look at my better score in time. Also biomedical engineering is very competitive. My first choice was NC State but now I’m leaning towards Clemson but out of state tuition is a bit much almost 31k per year so I have no idea what I’m going to do. Also yes I kinda of figured UNCW and UNC Charlotte wouldn’t be a problem but they are really my back up plans and I don’t want to be at a small school.

Katy that was a thought of mine but I have heard it is very hard to switch into engineering especially biomedical engineering or chemical engineering my top two choices

I’m still looking for chances!
