NC State 2016 Transfers

Anyone else applying to transfer for fall 2016?? Thought it would be nice to see if anyone else was applying so we could share stats, advice and anxiety together. Go packs!

I’m applying from ecu with a 3.7 to natural resources good luck the wait is very long

@colltransfer97 I’m applying from a local community college with a 3.7 to philosophy…the wait is indeed long…did you apply early action? If so, we have at least 5 weeks left :frowning: your chances look good to me! Hope we both make it in

Yes I did apply early action. How many hours do you have completed

@colltransfer97 I have 60 credits…taking 9 this semester…expecting nearly all to transfer tho the limit is 65 I believe…wbu??

Does anyone know what a red exclamation point next to Test Scores Received on the application status page means? The app is complete and there is no decision date on the status page yet. Just wondering if this means a score is too low or is this simply a notification mark? The transcripts do not have this red exclamation point. Also, is it possible to be accepted without having taken a math class yet if you are applying as a sophomore transfer and just haven’t taken a math class yet?

I also have a red explanation point next to test scores and I believe that is because they are not required. I also do not think you can be accepted if you do not at least have in progress a college level math class but you could call admissions to check.

@jennie11 @colltransfer97 just adding on…mine used to have a red exclamation point but I think once they realize you have enough credits to be established as a soph/junior then it will eventually turn to green

Mine actually is green but last time I checked mine was red so just keep checking it should change.

Thanks for the info!

The average GPA for transfer students last year was 3.31 Many of the engineering majors have a 3.5 minimum gpa, so they skew the numbers a bit. My guess is that if you are non-engineering and have above that gpa, you are in for sure. Some of the other majors are competitive, but if the average is 3.31, then there are hundreds that get accepted with lower gpas. They like community college students, that saves the State money and provides the same future benefit to the State.

My kid has had a yellow exclamation mark for test scores since the start. If you have completed more than 30 hours at the time of application, then test scores are not required and not considered. Test scores are no where near as good of a predictor of performance as actual performance is.

So in reading the requirements it actually leaves room for interpretation on the math requirement, which makes me think that possibly some are admitted without having taken a class yet–possibly non-engineering, non-math and non-business majors. Maybe I’m wishful thinking for a social sciences major. With a 3.86 gpa, only 24 hours completed so far, but another 12 currently in progress, perhaps this is why the test scores have red exclamation points, and maybe the combo of gpa and social science major will be a better deciding factor for admittance.

@jennie11 if you don’t mind me asking, are you in state or oos? Community college or university? I think these factors are important also.

Test scores are required if you have only completed 24 hours so far. Classes that you are currently taking don’t count.

@Gowolfpacks18 – OOS, 4-yr university

ACT scores for two test dates have been received by the school. I’m going to call and ask what the red exclamation points mean.

@jennie11 I see. i am hoping they are just backed up and haven’t had time to update it.

I have applied to transfer from a community college for aerospace engineering, but I have no idea when I’ll get a decision. The website says the release date is not march 30 for a few programs including AE but does not specify when. I was hoping a successful transfer could elaborate on this.

2 years ago my oldest daughter found out 2-3 days before the deadline. I’m expecting to wait till the 30th for daughter number 2.

@nealinnc how did your first daughter like state? How do you like state? Unless something catastrophic happens, I am feeling pretty confident about my chances of getting in…my only gripe is that it’s about a 2-3 hour commute from my hometown…which means I probably won’t take my car and would hope I’d get a work study job or regular job on campus…I’m also going for philosophy and maybe minor in cognitive or forensic science…a lot of ppl have told me it’s silly to go to state for a humanities major since it’s known for engineering…I personally think engineering is just one dimension…a rather large dimension…of the school and their other programs like humanities are hidden gems…what’d you think?

Just looking at old threads and the decisions were released last year on the 25th…maybe I’m wishful thinking but I wouldn’t mind finding out a few days early…
