ND waitlist question

i think its been a while since NOBODY got off the list, so at least a few kids should get off i would think. maybe wishful thinking though

I know ck i was thinking the same thing... since there was a year where they had to rush and find housing because of over acceptances you would think that now they would deliberately under accept to avoid having to go through that again.. which is why I think that typically you see any where from 100-120 kids come off the wait list (at least from the stats I've seen)... so i am hoping that it would take some terrible terrible luck for this to happen again.

i have no inside info, just what someone at ND told me that they are getting a very high yield. of course some will come off the list, it would never be -0-. how many is the question. I hope for those waiting it works out well. good luck

ND has a high yield every year, over 50% (dont know the exact number). But the amount of people that come of the list has to do with the difference between actual yield and predicted yield. Also, due to the situation a few years ago, they usually underaccept and plan to take kids off the waitlist (at least this is what the stats look like)

the school is very concerned about the Charlie Weiss effect, although they have planned for it. so far, more than ever are accepting

I think I will ask my guidance counselor to call ND tomorrow to see if I can find out what they are doing with the WL

hey, good luck. i hope it all works out for you.

At this point, D has decided to sit tight and wait it out---no more phone calls, no more letters. God's in charge, as always. Best to all you other wl kids.

My nephew has been told by his hs counselor that ND will not be going to their waitlist and have over enrolled by 45. The are hoping that by attrition they will end up with the class size they want. I would suggest that you call and speak with your Adcom directly to be sure this is correct.

wow...thats extremely surprising, they have almost never not gone to the waitlist if you look at the previous stats from the last 3 years. not one kid coming off?? yea wow time for me to go into extreme depression for 3 months now

We rec'd an email on Saturday from Notre Dame. They are not taking anyone off this year's waitlist. They are currently over-enrolled.

dont you think they would have sent this email to everyone who is waitlisted?

I had sent an email last Wed to the Admissions office confirming our son's continued interest in ND. So I appreciate the quick response, although it's still a bummer.

Can anyone confirm this email? I have not received anything from ND yet. I really, really hope this is not true.

Yes, the email was real. We sent it to the ND Admissions person that had told us to keep them informed on new awards, etc for our son. I had sent an email like that (I didn't ask about the waitlist, as I figured it was still being worked). We got an email back telling us that they unfortunately we're over-enrolled and hoped our son wouldn't be too disappointed. Fortunately, he was pretty excited about UT Austin!

hey- i've been checking this site every now and then the past month to see if anyone had heard from ND about the waitlist-

anyway, my kid sister, who's on the waitlist, called the admissions office this morning, and she was told the same thing- that ND is currently overenrolled and probably won't be going to the waitlist. just posting to confirm what the other people have already been saying. apparently a letter will be going out on monday to the students on the waitlist.

That sucks, I am sorry guys! I guess ND must have really had a strong matriculation rate. If they don't take anyone, I hope you all do very well at whatever school you end up to. If you still want to get into ND, then get in touch and checkout my website at http://www.nd.edu/~mnadorff/transfer. Sorry!

now wait a minute... there's still alot of hope for the ppl on the waitlist
im sure there are students at nd who were waitlisted at other schools and would rather go there sooo alot of it depends on those other schools so don't give up hope

I see your point but I don't think admissions would say that they weren't going to take anyone unless it wasn't true; it sounds like they just had a lot more people confirm than they were planning on. I am certainly one that is always about keeping hope, transfers are like that, but if ND said that they aren't going to take anyone I just can't justify keeping hope with the waitlist. Sure, anything can happen, but at this time I think that keeping hope is counter-productive. If there is a miracle, that is fantastic, but summer is short enough time to prepare for college. If I were waitlisted right now, I would just get ready to go to whatever college you have confirmed to. I just don't see the justification for hope and I think at this point it is just really good to know where you are heading. All of these students have a great chance at transferring if they wish, so there is always hope for this, but again I would just start gearing up to attend wherever you confirmed and really try to enjoy it. Good luck everyone!

yea, I think it's probably a good idea to prepare to go to a school where you've been accepted but i'm almost certain that some of those kids are on waitlists at other schools that they may want to attend over notre dame and summer is a good two and a half months in which alot of things can happen. I'd be willing to bet that that waitlist opens up. If someone wants to go to notre dame badly enough, I am sure they'd be willing to drop their bags, turn around, and head to south bend. I sure would.
