Ok, I called today and got the same thing. It made me pretty depressed, but now I guess I will try and transfer. Does anyone know if it would be better to go to a more prestigious university like Emory, and try to transfer, or the University of Tulsa, which is still a good school, but not as prestigious? I need to decide by tommorrow, as TU wants to know if I am going to accept their scholarship.

You can get in either way; I know friends that went to Princeton and Stanford and then transferred into Notre Dame and then I went to Creighton on scholarship and transferred into Notre Dame. Just go where you are most comfortable and do your best. If you are at one of the top schools you may not need quite as high of a GPA but that is minimal. Just go to the school that is the best fit, really. I hope that helps some.

Also, to everyone thinking of transferring, please try to give your school a chance. I can't tell you how many people I have talked to that wanted to transfer but instead found that they loved and were very happy with their first school. Just give it a chance, it is best for everyone. Good luck guys and get in touch if you want to talk transfer.

Irish. I have read many of your posts. Your contributions are of real value. Thank you for posting here.
I would welcome info from anyone as to how overbooked ND is for next fall. My son was accepted and is going, and I am interested in whether they will have a real overcrowding problem.

Unfortunately ND doesn't seem to learn and we always have overcrowding in the dorms. It doesn't affect you much after freshman year (unless you are a transfer) but it definately can affect the freshman. What happens is that some rooms get extended, fitting in one more person, and some study lounges become rooms (which in halls like O'Neill, let's be honest, they haven't been study lounges for years). Chances are that it won't affect your son directly but it may. Overall it isn't that bad from what I have heard, just unfortunate.

My parents are not allowing me to attend Notre Dame so I hope that somehow my spot will help you. I wish you the best of luck.

Bicky, why aren't you allowed?

I have a deposit at Vanderbilt and Notre Dame. My parents won't allow me to go to Notre Dame because they think it is too far and other excuses. They want me to attend Vandy with my sister....and I'm Asian so that explains a lot. I'm going to write a letter soon. I hope one you get a chance to go! :)

I was waitlisted myself back in the day. I would call your adcom and let them know how much you want to go. Send emails and have your parents call. This what I did and they called me back and admitted me at the top of the waitlist. To give you a time frame... I was admitted in mid to late may. So its not too late. Make sure they know that if they go to the trouble to choose you to be admitted that you WILL say yes!

ghippleh, I still probably would do all those things but if you read the other posts they said they aren't taking anyone off the waiting list :(

My bad... didnt read all the posts.

Has anyone heard anything back that has been sitting on the waiting list?
I'm on it too - and its driving me mad!
ND has been my dream for so long - and its already the end of may

I don't think anyone has gotten letters but if you read this whole thread there are some that have talked with ND and it doesn't sound like they are going to accept anyone. That is just what people have posted though, I am sorry. If that is the case, check out my website at www.nd.edu/~mnadorff/transfer. I will keep my fingers crossed that they are wrong!

We rec'd the email response from ND about not taking anyone off the waitlist, but haven't rec'd a letter. Seems like the letter would've been here by now.

yea i did theysaid in the letter they are accepting no one off the waitlist and how this was an unusual year for them.

My son spoke to an admissions counselor last week and was told that they had too many students say yes so they would not be going to the wait list this year. Bummer....

I apologize to everyone about my other post if it gave anyone false hopes... I honestly did talk to an adcom in random conversation about all this... this must have come as a real shock to the admissions office, then. Hopes for a National Championship in football must have really bolstered things... Honestly what I said was no lie, the speculation sounded like a small number, they anticipated a higher than usual yield I guess.... but it's at least a few years since they haven't gone at all.. so maybe that was what the counselor was basing the speculation on. Wow.

Again my apologies.

I wouldn't apologize mhawk, you had a good source. I can't find that original post but I know that earlier in this thread I was saying that ND had always in recent memory taken people off the list, even after Willingham's first year. We just assumed that history would prove to be correct and unfortunately we were wrong! I still wouldn't apologize, you did your best to help, you talked to the right people, and you didn't know that what you said wasn't accurate. No worries.
