Need advice!

Im currently a junior in high school with a 3.57 academic core GPA, a 3.4 unweighted and a 3.8 weighted gpa..i have taken about 5 honors courses and will be taking about 5 more on my upcoming year of high school which will be my senior year..i am involved in a lot of clubs, 250 service hours..but i got a 19 on my ACT which im afraid will ruin my chances of getting into UCF....what do you guys think?!? by the way...i have taken Algebra, and geometry in high school...and other math courses that were remedial classes such as informal geometry and pre algebra which is what held me back...now UCF requires 4 math courses in order for admission..i wil be taking algebra 2 and integrated math my senior year..but how will they see that i will be taking these 2 courses when it doesnt say it on my transcript...will they reject me?

I can’t speak to rejecting you or not … but when you fill out your application for UCF, it will ask you what your senior schedule is going to be. So, they will see the extra math classes that you will be taking and will take that into consideration. Ask to speak to a UCF admissions officer for specific questions (or your guidance counselor). I would also suggest retaking the ACT, and if you haven’t already done so, take the SAT, too. Sometimes students will do better on one than on the other. Do you have any special circumstances that will affect your application i.e. first in your family to go to college, or a learning disability, or anything else that you can think of? These kind of things can be worked into your essay, which I would make sure is done very well. Have an english teacher or guidance counselor read it over before you submit it.

Good luck!

I think you should be more concerned about your test score than anything else right now. UCF is known for putting a lot of weight into test scores when considering a student for admission. My roommate got deferred for summer term with a 20 on the ACT, then accepted later on. As far as your math courses go, I would just email an admission counselor and ask about that.

And really… don’t bust your ass senior year to do clubs and try to get hours… spend the time studying for the ACT instead!

Best of luck!
