I am a senior in high school in California and I am trying to apply to California state colleges. I have slacked off on my grades in the past, I have two D’s from integrated math 2 my junior year and not taking a math class this year (big mistake I know), and I also got a D in one semester of spanish my freshman year and a D one semester of spanish my sophomore year. The CSU’s are not allowing me to submit those D’s because they don’t meet the UC requirements. I really need some advice as to what to do, I understand I have made some mistakes but if someone could PLEASE help me I would greatly appreciate it. Btw, community college is a very last resort for me for personal reasons. I’d also like to add that I’m applying to out of state colleges but my preference on where I go is equal whether it’s in Cali or out
There is nothing you can do at this point if you do not meet the minimum CSU requirements of 3 years Math and 2 years Foreign Language. Getting D’s in these courses makes you not eligible. If you want to attend a CSU, you will have to go to a community college and transfer. You would have repeat these course or take a higher level of Math and Spanish to validate the D’s this year. Since you have stated you are not taking any Math this year, you have pretty much got your answer.
Maybe some of the OOS colleges will overlook your D’s.
If you retake the courses in which you got a D, the CSUs allow you to put the new grade on the application. Usually students retake courses in the summer after getting the D, but that is not an option. So maybe comm college to make up those grades? Might be too much to take on at this point, but that is one road – retaking classes in spring and summer and hope that it registers on the application. You might talk to a counselor. Another possibility is to apply to Arizona state universities. I think ASU is easier to get into than some CSUs. But you will have to check their requirements and whether they will accept the Ds.
