I graduated when I was 16 from Penn Foster, Online Highschool. Next year I’m going to be taking classes at Calhoun community college. The original plan was to take the classes I hadn’t taken in high school at Calhoun, so I could meet the freshmen requirements for universities in FL. After a talk with FSU admissions, I was told that even if I take the classes at Calhoun, I still wouldn’t meet freshman requirements because I didn’t take them in high school. Is this correct? Am I going to be forced to get an AA? Would it be better (and cheaper) to just toss out my Penn Foster diploma, get a GED, and apply with a partial transcript? Any help is appreciated. I need to get into a Florida school, my family moved to Alabama 6 years ago to avoid hurricanes, But I still have my Florida Prepaid College Plan. If I can’t get into a Florida university, this money will only cover a fraction of tuition.
If you want to get into a FL Uni, and if FSU is your top choice, I recommend just getting your AA and then transferring to FSU. As long as you meet the requirments for intended major, completed your AA by time of entering Uni, and have a decent GPA you’re basically guaranteed into a a program as long as it isn’t a limted access major.
You can easily complete your AA in 1.5 years if you take summer and intercession classes as well.
