having studied countless study guides and grammar tutorials, i feel as if my writing mc score is stuck. every college board practice test i take always contains around 5 errors (2 from improving paragraphs, 2-3 from error id). most of the questions i miss are hard questions. nonetheless, i'm curious of whether anybody else has encountered and overcame this situation. if so, would you be kind enough to offer some advice on achieving a 80 on mc? thanks!

Buy PR's Grammar Smart. It isn't too boring, and it is short and to the point. It is easy to understand, and I am sure it will improve you writing score. I never (seriously) learned ANY grammar in school, but I got 80 MC after reading grammar smart. Also, Rocket Review has some good advice for the Writing section.

Unfortunately, though I consistently achieve 80 MC subscore, I always do poorly on the essay. I can't seem to think of good examples or squeeze enough writing out of the short time allotted. Does anybody have some good essay advice?

which one is better in your oppinion? october is going to be my last shot, hence i'm running a bit short on time. thanks for your input!

do all the writing tests in the Big blue book. review ALL your mistakes and any ones that you are not 100% sure on. Obviously use the Offical SAT course as a reference. I promise you this will work. You should get some light grammar book too. i recommend cliff notes' verbal review for standardized tests. PR grammar smart is also a good choice both of these are short and test oriented, but i prefer the former. After doing this, I usually only get 1 wrong - that i quickly understand, unless it's a weird one - or none. So yea, i improved from 660 (actual) to about 800 (practice tests). But i'm sure i'll get near 800, if not 800, on the actual test.

up until recently, doing college board practice tests and checking my answers are all that i've been doing. i stopped because i became paranoid after i scoed several sections and saw no improvement. whenever i miss a question (not out of sheer carelessness) on the writing section, i always get a feeling that i need more practice and to continue on in this manner would only waste more tests. do you guys suggest that i drop all my test taking and read one of those grammar books mentioned above, continue taking tests/checking answers, or do both.

Do both. Maybe postpone doing writing sections until you go through the book, but then definitely continue doing the practice tests.

thanks a lot for your help guys. i've ordered the pr grammar smart book and will begin reading it as soon as it arrives.
