need serious help (chances)

<p>Hello,</p>

<p>It's almost 2014 and i'm ridiculously scared and can't stop worrying about what college i'm going to end up attending. I live in NYC and I go to a "specialized" high school. Our school requires us to make a list of colleges that we're applying to and I believe we're not allowed to alter it anymore (because the school sent out our documents).</p>

<p>Gender: Male
Ethnicity: White
School type: Public, about 1,300 in my grad class
Class rank: N/A</p>

<p>SAT: 1850 Superscored (650 Math, 600 CR, 600 Writing) [2 Sittings]
ACT: 28 (8 on essay)
SAT II: 570 English, 710 Math I</p>

<p>GPA: 73</p>

<p>Recommendations:
I have two recs right now, one from my freshman Global History teacher, and one from my current Economics (and US last year) teacher. </p>

<p>Extracurriculars:
2 School Clubs
Work (summer, paid)
Volunteered at a University in NYC
Volunteered in an Accounting Firm</p>

<p>I definitely want to stay on the East Coast, preferably somewhere in/around New York. I'd prefer not going to a community college right off the bat, but I am thinking about going somewhere and transferring a year or two later. My major fear is that i'm going to get rejected from the "good" colleges that I am applying to. I am also planning to take the SAT again on January 25th to late-report my score when I receive it in February.</p>

<p>Colleges that i'm applying to:
Adelphi
Drexel
Hofstra
LIU (Brooklyn Campus)
Marist
Seton Hall
SUNY Binghamton
SUNY Old Westbury
SUNY Stony Brook
SUNY University at Buffalo
University of Connecticut
University of Hartford
University of MA Boston
University of Rhode Island
Utica College
Wagner College</p>

<p>As for CUNYs, it's: Brooklyn, Hunter, Baruch, Lehman, Kingsborough (community), and John Jay</p>

<p>I'm really nervous and scared that I won't get in anywhere.
Can someone please advise me on my chances and what I should do? </p>

<p>If it means anything, I currently have my English/Econ grades at around 95. My grades have always been very iffy and i'm a senior now, will colleges see these high grades? Will it help?
Thank you. Please let me know if I should provide any more info.</p>

<p>Yes colleges will see these new high grades, since your counselor will have to send a midyear report in February with your first semester grades.
You go to a specialized high school in NYC and we all know what it means re: that 73 GPA (probably an 88 in another NYC high school) and you got 28ACT/1850 SAT: you WILL GET INTO most of those schools.
Seriously, stop stressing.
Your list is very consistent, the only odd one is UMass Boston (commuter school, really not where a freshman should attempt going - if you want a school in/near Boston, look at Clark, which is a match for you, or Wheaton for a reach, or Suffolk or Wheelock for a super safety or Wentworth since you seem okay with math.)
UConn, SUNY Bing, and Stony Brook are the only reaches on your list, everything else should be fine and you’re likely to have an embarassment of riches in the spring.
Relax and come back to let us know where you got in, what the financial aid was, and where you decided to go. :)</p>

<p>Thank you so much you have no idea how happy that reply made me. The main thing that worried me was that my counselor said that the majority of the schools on my list are low/high reaches and I’m not eager to be doomed to a community college. I will definitely report back with my results when I receive them, along with everything else. Thanks so much.</p>

<p>If anyone else can please give their input it’d be very appreciated :)</p>

<p>Anyone? (Sorry if bumping like this isn’t allowed).</p>

<p>Anyone? D: D: D:</p>

<p>Anyone? ;_____;</p>

<p>Help please</p>

<p>What MYOS says is correct, you’ll get into most of these schools except maybe UConn and Stony Brook. Good luck!</p>

<p>Even though the majority have much higher requirements? Do you really think I have a chance for most?</p>

<p>Also, for Rolling, is it best to get the app in asap? Still haven’t applied</p>

<p>anything that’s rolling admissions, yes, ASAP!! some people applied in October and are already in…</p>

<p>I would apply sooner rather than later…once You receive that first acceptance, you will have some stress relief. Uconn and Marist (unless you interviewed/visited)maybe a bit of a reach, but drexel, u of hartford and u of Rhode Island are definitely good to go. Sorry I can’t really speak about they others as I haven’t researched enough. Good luck, you’ve done well. Please post your results and let us know where you end up.</p>

<p>Dear …,

Please extend my warmest holiday wishes to your entire family. We look forward to welcoming you to the UC Riverside family!
Sincerely,</p>

<p>@MYOS1634 - Yes, I plan on applying tomorrow for the Rolling/Ones with soon deadlines.
@Dawndib I agree haha i’m just scared that I won’t get any… I, along with other people, have been considering Drexel a reach as well. My guidance counselor said almost all my schools are reaches. May I ask why you think i’m good to go for these schools? U Hartford has lower requirements so I guess that would be a safety, just hoping that it won’t be my end choice (no offense to anyone who goes there of course).
@Lake24 Unfortunately my HS career is anything but outstanding :(</p>

<p>I will definitely post and tell everyone where I get in and how everything works out…</p>

<p>Would really appreciate more input if anyone is willing!</p>

<p>Bumping it up</p>

<p>Adelphi- High Match
Drexel- Low Reach/High Match
Hofstra- Low Reach/High Match
LIU (Brooklyn Campus)- Low Match/Safety
Marist- Match
Seton Hall- Low Reach/High Match
SUNY Binghamton- Reach
SUNY Old Westbury- ?? Sorry
SUNY Stony Brook- Low Reach
SUNY University at Buffalo- High Match
University of Connecticut- High Match/Match
University of Hartford- Match/Low Match
University of MA Boston- Match/Low Match
University of Rhode Island- Low Match
Utica College- Low Reach
Wagner College- Low Match
For the CUNYs, your chances are pretty high except Brooklyn, Hunter, Baruch, for those may be High Matches/Low Reaches</p>

<p>Don’t sweat it!</p>

<p>What if I have failed classes on my transcript? Will that affect me tremendously? I failed Geometry and Trig first term and passed both second term. I also have two failing grades for a my school only-class that I retook Junior year and got 89/88 in the second time around. I also failed second term french II and first term french III, but made up the french II failure. Still shows up, though… Will that affect super hard?</p>

<p>Anyone? :(</p>

<p>Seriously you’re freaking out. It’s clear your guidance counsellor doesn’t know much about these schools. You’re all but guaranteed for almost all of them.</p>

<p>I got into Adelphi!</p>
