Alright to its already mid April and I havent heard back from UCSD so I am preparing for the worst. Im starting on an appeal. My gpa is a crappy 3.1 and im applying as a physics major. I wanna say that the gpa is low because the first year in college i really messed up but since then i have an upward grade trend and for the past year ive been taking 18 units a semester to catch up. last semester i took calc 2, physics 4a, chem 1a, and english 1c in the same semester and passed. over winter i used my vacation hours to take two classes and passed both with an A. and this semester I am taking calc 3, physics 4b, physics 4c, and bio while still working 20-25 hours a week because of my family's financial situation. I want to say that if i didnt have to work my grades would be much better and after i transfer my financial obligation to my family would be over. Can you guys give any input or suggestions please i really need it

did you do tag? if not, you could just apply this summer as a winter transfer with tag.

savage: i agree with jetforcegeminix, signing tag would be a lot easier cuz they’re really strict about appeals. they don’t take it unless its a clerical error, but its worth a shot.

i wrote an appeal to UCSD last year with a similar situation. i can PM it to you if you want

im getting ready too…sd is my first choice…3.45 cogsci…

let me know what happens…other than that winter here i come

I have a TAG and haven’t seen any changes either. I think they’re just messing with us.

As for an appeal, you really don’t have anything to lose. My friend was rejected out of high school, and she worked her way through their automated message system, spoke to many reps over the phone, and finally found out that UCSD uses a point system in terms of admission. For instance, GPA gets you so-and-so points, SAT scores so-and-so, until you reach the minimum required for admission. She was missing all her points from the “honors and awards” portion of her application, and the only way an appeal could have helped was if she had convincing evidence that she had won an award between Novemeber and that March. So definitely try to get an much info about your application as possible before sending off an appeal.

Brainstorm SPECIFIC reasons why you should be admitted. Schedule appointments with counselors now in case you need letters of recommendation. And keep it short; I’m sure they’ll be far happier reading something concise, well-written, and witty than long, groveling, etc. Good luck, although I’m sure you’ll make it in without an appeal!

you guys need to relax, i got in last year to UCSD with a 3.06, as a biological sciences major, our counselors at the CC say a 2.9 pretty much gives you a solid shot at UCSD, the person with the 3.45 needs to not worry whatsoever unless they are missing pre reqs. This is without TAG btw.

Alright thanks guys… turkeey what was the result of your appeal did it go through? and could you PM me the appeal please I would like to take a look before I send mine in

savage you were already rejected? stats?

No i wasnt rejected yet but im just preparing for the worst… 3.1 physics major IGETC done and missing 1 math prereq

well now that I think about it I did submit my UC application on the dealine at 11 pm could that be why its taking so long? do they review the apps in the order that they receive them?

Umm i thought the deadline was midnight…

I meant on the day of the dealine at 11 pm, an hour before midnight

phew, almost gave me a heart attack!!

DavidAdkins: I have IGETC completed and a 3.47, I was rejected for biology as a transfer from CCC, 60 transferable units etc. 4 Pre-reqs completed. I have well above the 2.8 minimum that they asked for. Just useful info for those of you who believed him.
