Hello,

As a new college confidential user, I would like to introduce myself to the community. I've been accepted to MSU for the Fall 2011 semester as a community college transfer student. I will be transferring nearly 60 credits (the maximum, I believe) and will be majoring in Chemical Engineering.

My AOP is coming up real soon, the 27th of this month to be exact. I've indicated my housing preferences, but have not heard back yet. However, I'm very excited about attending MSU this fall and can't wait to officially become a Spartan!

Although I've never posted on this board until now, many of the threads posted by other users have been very helpful to me in the past. With that being said, I don't have any questions about MSU at this point. But if I do in the future, I won't hesitate to ask!

Thank you in advance for any future support. :)

Hi, and welcome to MSU! I joined the forum fairly recently, but i’ve been at MSU for 5 years (double majoring in very different areas…), so let me know if you have any questions!

Welcome to CC/MSU! Hope you enjoy MSU as much as I do :D

Welcome to MSU and CC :)!

Thanks to all that replied. So I just received an email today stating that I have been assigned to River Trail neighborhood. This isn’t much of a surprise to me, as it seems like most transfer students end up in McDonel Hall. In your opinion, how likely will I be assigned to McDonel? I’ve also heard that this is where the majority of international students are housed. Do most international students seem sociable and friendly or do they mostly keep to themselves? Is there a language barrier between international and domestic students? For people who have not requested a specific person as their roommate, will they pair international and domestic students to a room? I’m pretty much going in blind and I only ask these questions to get a feel for the atmosphere. I appreciate any response, thank you.

McDonel and Akers are where the bulk of internationals live. Most of them are East Asians, so hopefully you’re not exceptionally racist or anything. The bulk of the East Asian internationals mostly just hang out with each other, but I’m sure you can make friends with them if you try. There may be a bit of a language barrier, but they’re expected to know English, and most are proficient. They do sometimes pair internationals and domestics, too. Look at it as an opportunity. I think River Trail is just McDonel, Owen, and Van Hoosen, so it’s almost certain you’ll be in McDonel.
