New SAT Scores for Harvey Mudd

Hi everyone,

So, I have no idea what to think of my new SAT scores…and Mudd is definitely my top school. I took the SAT once (haven’t taken the ACT), when the new one was first released, and never looked back…until now. A.K.A. I saw the concordance tables (cringe)

New SAT Scores:

Composite: 1450

Math: 780

Verbal: 670

I go to one of the hardest schools in the nation, and have taken all of the hardest classes available while getting a 3.98 GPA. AP Coursework: AP Chemistry, AP Literature, AP Physics I, AP World History, AP United States History, AP Calculus, AP English Language, AP French Language, AP Computer Science.

Lol, my B was in one semester of PE, end of junior year.

I’m planning on applying ED II and have already taken the SAT subject tests in Chemistry & Math II, but haven’t gotten my scores back yet.

I’m also a girl wanting to major in engineering…if that helps.

Do you think it’s neccessary/recommended for me to retake the SAT (I really…REAAAALLLY don’t want to…but I’m nervous that my score might hold me back)?

Thank you again for the feedback!

Does Harvey Mudd superscore? If so, you have nothing to lose. I would concentrate on Verbal Practice tests and try to knock it out of the park. You have time.

Hi @preppedparent ! Thanks for the really helpful advice! Yes, Harvey Mudd does superscore so taking it again in November, while focusing on the verbal section would definitely be a good idea which is what I’m probably going to do. However, I have a really time consuming and important competition near November 5th and would like to avoid having to take the test that day. If I end up needing to retake my subject tests, I might also need to use the December test date for that.

So, if I just wanted my scores to “not hurt” my application, do you think they’re currently fine?

If Mudd is your top school, you should retake. For the old SAT, a 670 on the CR is 25th percentile. I think the new CR is probably pretty comparable. Getting to a 720 would improve your chances a lot. However, you do only have a short time to study, and the CR is the harder portion of the SAT to study for, IMHO.

Good advice guys! Just got my scores back from the November test date:

Verbal: 770
Math: 730

Which superscores to a 1550/1600

Excellent! Good luck!

Thank you!
