New student orientation for Fall 2010

I guess that is the last thing to do to be officially admitted. Does anyone know when we sign up? Do we sign up via the howdy portal?

Try your best to go to as early of a session as you can for the best selection of classes.

Yeah i know we can start signing up starting Feb 1st. That’s actually tommorow…I’m not sure where though.

sign up is supposed to happen on the AIS! so i guess you just logg on and there should be something there!

Can we do the housing app right after we get accepted? I assume we would need to pay a depost first?

yeah. i got in and applied for housing on the same day! but you do have to put a deposit for them to even look at your application or apply for a waiver!

Registration for New Student Conferences is available now. Register ASAP - sessions are already filling up! Cost is $75.50.

yeah spots are filling up rapidly and you want to go as early as possible to get the best classes of course

How much do you lose if you put your deposit down and decide not to go?

the 75 dollars is non-refundable i am pretty sure but correct me if i am wrong!

I thought the deposit was like $300, plus a little more. Do you get $300 back, and just lose $75?

oh ok so on the housing you can get the 300 back but not the 25ish or whatever. The 75 dollars that you put down for the NSC i think is gone forever! but again, i could be wrong on all accounts

aggie2014 - you’re right. The $75 for New Student Conference is non-refundable. Also, don’t despair if you can only attend one of the later conferences. When my daughter attended hers in mid-July a couple of years ago, we learned that they open up new sections/seats at each conference. However, for the best selection of classes, the earlier the better. Remember that the upperclassmen have already registered for the next year by the time they leave in May, and they’ve filled up a lot of the classes. Our daughter is now a junior, and there are still certain of the more popular Kinesiology (P.E.) classes she wanted to take that she’s never been able to get into!

The actual registration process during New Student Conference will also vary depending on which college you’re in. Our daughter started as an English major (Liberal Arts). With relatively few freshmen enrolling, the professor in charge and his staff literally took the kids by the hand, helped them find the classes they needed and entered them into the computer. They called it the “Kinder and Gentler Registration”, and I have to say it was pretty awesome! On the other hand, the multitude of freshman Engineering students were randomly given a time slot to register then thrown into the registration pond to sink or swim! We saw lots of tears from friends who got slots at the end of the day when so many of the classes they wanted had been filled. Somehow it all tends to work out though!
