yes, the prelimanary nomination stages may be based on SATs and grades, but

I don't even know if your PSATS come out in time to even send to colleges

Hey guys, I was nominated for NJ gov school as well. Currently I'm working on the short essays and I'm having a lot of trouble cutting my words down the the 200 word limit. Do these essays work the same way as college essays would, like if you go over 20 words its still ok?

Well ... unless you think they're going to count every word on your essay for every new jersey student that applies, I think you'll be OK.

i got nominated for environment, and i'm def really interested. i think the program sounds awesome, and i heard it's a lot of fun.

has anyone on this board gone to the international studies one

does anyone know what they meant when they said that we hv to be in the top 10% range of PSAT scores? does that mean top 10% in the school or of all the juniors who took the PSAT? lol thought that was quite vague..

also.... is anyone applying for the sciences??
i wanna know your stats....

it says ...

If a junior class lacks six students who have scored in the 90th percentile, students with lower percentile scores may apply as long as they are among the highest scores in your school.

So, its just the number on your PSAT.

Hmmm, what about the arts? Do those kids have to have over 90%, I wonder?

i remember last year a kid from my school was nominated for visual art (i think thats one of the categories in NJGSA)...and he DEFINITELY didnt have scores in the 90th percentile

gov school for the arts doesn't care about psat scores. i have the packet and there's no place to put them on there anyways.

How important are the essays for the science gov school?

How many words can someone typically go over? My word count is 276, and the limit is 250.

that's fine... they're not going to count every word.

does anyone know when we get results?

march 25th is the portfolio day, so i'm assuming mid march for most schools.

My first name is spelled wrong on my PSAT score report that collegeboard sent. How will this effect my admissions process?

yea...i'm applying to the school of international studies...the word limits was like 250 - 300. on was like 450...(times new roman 1.5 space one page...) and the paragraph i had to write was one whole page (1.5 space) u think it'll be okay? i mean...u seriously can't get anything down in 300 words...any ideas? thanks

Eh. All I know is that one of the well suited kids got disqualified from my school's preliminary judging for writing too much in Science. I'd say to try to keep to the limit. 10, 20 words over isn't noticeable, but when you get more than that...it's a huge risk you'll have to take.

In my mind, limit = limit.

If you want, I'll try reading through and cutting down words...though I guess that's useless now that the due date's past.

yea...i was kinda worried about that...i hope they would care too much though...(it is only one page 1.5 space)...but who knows...btw...is international studies a hard school to get into? (for the last 3 years, both kids from my school went)

Hmm. I don't have too much an idea. I believe someone from my school last year got into International Studies (though I could have mistaken that for Domestic Studies), but couldn't go due to some rampant disease or something of the sort. He's very active in Model UN and won best delegate(s) at the UNA-USA competition. He was also, I believe, taking multivariable-calculus, and maintaining a high gpa (I'd guess 96-97).

Sorry I can't tell you more.
