The time for the convocation won't work for us. I checked out the game schedcule for parent's weekend and it looks like all the games are home. I'll have to double check. We could drive up both days, it will just be a little tiring. We'll probably decide when we get closer to the date.

laxtaxi - is your daughter taking Honors Geo or Spanish II. If so she could be in class with my son or stef's son.

Great to know there are some local spots. I'm sure he'll just love shopping at Penney's or Sears. Should be less expensive than what I've been looking at.

There's another prep school thread about blue blazers, saying that you should not spend a lot of money on them because they have a way of getting trashed or disappearing altogether! Seriously though, the thread has on-line sources too you might consider.

I did check out some of the online sources for the blazer. The problem is that I have nooo idea what size to get him. keylyme - do you remember what size your son was last year.

If he has to, then he can wear the one that I sent to school with him. It is a few inches short in the sleeves, but isn't too bad in the shoulders.

I am glad we decided to pack my son's blue blazer -- his still fits (although not for long). I buy men's blazers on ebay -- top quality for very little money -- and then have it tailored. He ends up with a $200 blazer for about $30 and it looks great. You do have to know the general size and have the time to tailor it, though.

How are your kid's doing? My son is working hard and having a blast. He is feeling a little overwhelmed with schoolwork and the football practices are grueling -- but he seems to be coping with the tough stuff and loving the rest of it. He says he isn't having any problems with his roommate or anything else, so everything looks good so far.

We are coming up for parent's weekend -- but since we live so far, we are flying up Friday and leaving Tuesday.

A bit of a roller coaster, but mostly good here. D is on phone with S right now, and he has her on speakerphone and we are hearing everything. She sounds very upbeat which makes us very happy.

My son is loving it at NMH. He definitely made the right choice to attend.

We still haven't decided whether we are staying overnight on Friday or just driving back and forth for parent's weekend. I'll be able to decide once I know what the weekend entails. My other kids have gymnastic and football practice, plus my oldest is working at McDonalds so it'll be tough to be gone on a Friday night.

I don't know what size your son is....when my oldest went to NMH he was only 5 2 1/2 and his blazer was (I think) a size 14. The next one we got was a size 18 from Rugged Bear. My son who is at NMH now wears a mens 38....he was measured for that at Macy's. He is 5'10" and weighs around 150 lbs. I actually might still have the size 18 around. I will check when I get home from work. You can have that one if you think it will work.

keylyme - thanks for the offer. I actually found 2 jackets at Macy's. We're going to run them up Sat morning and see which one fits. Then we're going to spend some time antiquing.

hellosunshine - thanks. I'm not sure if official teams have been created yet.

There's a JCPenney and a Sears in Greenfield. He'll be stylin'. Woot!

Not any more. Well, the Sears may be there still, but it's just an auto place. Penny's (if at all) is just a catalog pick up store - nothing to buy. Used to have both full stores until probably 10 years ago or so (yikes, it may be more than that even!).
There are 3 decent Salvation Army stores in the area - the best being in Hadley near the closest mall (with a Penny's by the way). That one is the best because all the Colleges are around and they get lots of blazers/suits.

I just emailed you warriorboy! It's been a crazy summer.

There is a JC Penney store as well as a Sears clothing store, combined with a Land's End clothing store in Keene, NH. This is `1/2 hour north of NMH....just follow route 10.

How do I find out what the scheduled activities are for Parent's Weekend? We will be buying plane tickets soon and I need to know what is going on Friday so I know when we need to arrive by. I tried looking on the websight -- but I don't see anything specific for Family Days. When do they usually do the teacher conferences? Do we need to be there early on Friday?

Also -- is there any reason to stay through Tuesday? I know the kids don't have class, but we would just be hanging around. We were thinking we could take our S out on Sunday and Monday to shop for clothes/etc, to a movie and/or out to eat. Then head back home Monday night, unless it would be better to spend all day Monday and Monday night with him and head back Tuesday.

Good questions Stef - I'm curious also. I also checked out the website and couldn't find any info. (By the way I answered your PM... just wanted to make sure you got it.

Linda - I'm so glad that your are back. I keep saying that I am going to stop checking CC daily, but I can't help myself.

hellosunshine - from now on you have to treat this as a "confessional". My son thinks it's really creepy that I'm on a forum with his friend...

We're driving up tomorrow morning to deliver suit, shoes, ties, and junk food. Then we are hoping to head up to Swansea to a couple antique shops before the storm hits.
