I'm a Junior and I have already gotten my schedule for senior year. I am taking:

AP Calculus
AP Government
AP Literature and Composition
Accounting
Composition
Physics Honors

I have not had any AP classes until now (senior year). I have only taken Honors classes. I really want to get into NYU Stern, and I know they are looking for people who take Calculus (that's a big plus), so I'm taking that Senior year.

Question: if I apply RD, and they receive my senior first semester grades, would that give me a better chance at getting in, provided that I do really well in all of my AP/Honors classes? Or is it best to apply ED and just have NYU Stern receive my senior schedule? Has anyone else had experiences like this?

You should do ED unless you are doing badly or subpar, and want to show your senior grades. You just want a pretty consistent record so they assume you are doing well in senior year.

Thanks! My stats now as a Junior is a 4.0 unweighted GPA and all As in my classes, including Honors classes (I’m getting A+s in them). I want to show NYU that I am getting good grades in my AP classes which I will definitely strive for next year, so that’s why I want to apply RD so that I can show them how well I’m doing Senior year… will it affect my chances at all, or will my chances at getting in be exactly the same as if I were applying ED (with no senior year classes stats)?

@sundychen95, oh, yes, I know, but I was thinking of sending them my GRADES for them, like a mid-year transcript? Since the deadline for RD is January 1, I’ll already have my mid-year transcript by then…

You should apply RD to show that you are capable of getting A’s in ap as well, otherwise they will just think you’re afraid of challenging yourself.

You can apply ED, by sending in your first quarter or interim grades, you don’t need to wait to get your official semester grades. My nephew didn’t take any APs until senior year. He got all As the first quarter and his GC sent in his interim grades. He was accepted to Cornell ED.

oldfort, that’s amazing! I want to get into Cornell too! The benefits of ED is that it shows dedication to a school, right? Gosh. Cornell and NYU are both such dreams. Are interim grades first quarter grades?

A lot of high schools are on semester terms, but they give out unofficial quarter grades. Interim grades are quarter grades, depending on your school.

I don’t know my nephew’s exact GPA, but I think it is above 3.8 UW. He applied to Hotel with a lot of relevant ECs. Both of my kids were also admitted to Cornell A&S.
