No Interview? Should I be worried yet?

I know that no interview supposedly doesn't adversely affect my application but I'd still like to get one. I submitted my application in early October as a RD applicant and still haven't been contacted. I know for a fact that there is an interviewer in my area because a girl from my school district applied last year and she got an interview (although it wasn't until February).

How long do you think it will take for them to contact me? Should I be concerned that I submitted my application pretty early and still haven't been contacted yet?

I think they may want to interview the SCEA applicants before they get to the RD applicants.

No, you should not worry. The high uncertainty and intense competition tends to drive many talented, Ivy-applying students nuts during the admissions season. It’s tempting to grasp at any straw that seems as if it might help clarify or improve your chances.

But the interview plays only a minor role in admissions decisions, and the timing of the interview (as well as whether you even get one) depends on the circumstances of the alumni schools committee in your neighborhood, not on the merits of your application. Some regions have plenty of alumni volunteers, but others don’t. Right now, as Hunt wrote, the ASCs are focused on interviewing SCEA applicants under a tight timeline.

As an RD applicant, there’s a good chance that you won’t be contacted until next year.

“As an RD applicant, there’s a good chance that you won’t be contacted until next year.”

I think you can take this statement to the bank. I was assigned SIX SCEA interviews already. No way our group of volunteers is going to start on the RD pile of names.

Oh okay that makes me feel a lot better, and does make a lot of sense! The only weird thing is, is that I’m also applying to Princeton and I had that interview about 3 weeks ago. While I was there, my interviewer told me that he was told to have my interview finished by mid-November even though I was a RD applicant and there were some SCEA applicants in my area… Weird.

He was mistaken. Both PTon and Yale’s EA interview write ups are due in Nov. Our RD write ups are due ~ March.

I was gonna make a crack about Princetonians but have resisted the urge! LOL

In fairness to the Princeton interviewer, he may have had it in his mind that you were an SCEA applicant, since you applied so early.

Oh okay got it! That’s why I was a little bit worried about not hearing from Yale yet… I thought that didn’t seem right since RD decisions don’t even come out until around April… Thanks for clearing that up. Guess I’ll just have to keep biting my nails until I get a phone call or email from an interviewer!

Don’t be worried at all. I didn’t get an interview and still got in here.
