North Campus

I just got my housing contract and I am in a double in Bursley. Is North Campus really as bad as everyone says it is? Are there any advantages to living on North Campus? What time do the buses between Central and North Campus stop? Is there any chance that I can switch to Central/Hill or should I just make the best of the situation?

I think you may be stuck in North campus. You can call and see if you can move to Central campus. My son's friend lived out in Bursley but he spent every waking moment in E. Quad.

First if you're an engineering student, it's perfectly normal to live on North Campus. Unless you're a party animal, there isn't really that many cons of living on N. Campus. Here's a list of pros that I can think of: better food, closer to engr. classes, guaranteed bus rides to classes (I think if you live too close to classes on Central Campus, you might have to walk, correct me if I'm wrong.), quietness for studying...I don't think it's that bad at all.

Yea, I actually prefer North Campus over Central campus.

it is NOT "perfectly normal" for first-year engin students to live on north campus. only one of your classes per term will be on north, and you will ride the bus 2 or 3 days per week. they don't make any attempt to put engineers on north campus either. central is much better. in regards to food, sure bursely is good, but you also have restaurants and shops on central to go to at night.

i dunno.. i would prefer to live in central.

Bursley is fine. You and 1800 other freshmen are going to be best friends on North Campus. Bursley rooms are bigger than at Markley. Buses leave every 5 minutes for Central campus during peak class times. The food is better and they're going to have a new cafe/store in Bursley next year. The new Walgreen drama center is going to open up. You'll just have to plan a little better in terms of what you take with you in the morning, allow a little extra time to get to class, and maybe plan to wrap up your partying a little earlier so you can catch the last bus back. Even then -- you could take a taxi.

random question, but what time is the library open til on North Campus?

24/7 during normal school time. Apparently they only go from 7:30AM to midnight during spring/summer terms and on holidays.

people forget about the time in between classes. say you have a class ending at 2 and another beginning at 3. what do you do in between? sure you could get a cup of coffee or go to the library to pass the time.

but there are also days where you just wish you could go back and take a power nap. if you stay in north campus it will be hard to do that. class ends at 2pm and you will probably need about 10 minutes to get to bus stop. 5 minutes to wait for the bus, and another 10 for the bus ride. so, by the time you get to your room, it will be around 2.30 and guess what, almost time to go back down for class. the same problem applies when you forget something that you need to turn in for class that day and leave it in the dorm. there's no way of going back to get it quickly.

personally, those were the main problems/inconveniences that i experienced. it's a great place to stay, but the location is horrible.
