got that same email. was hoping for one though
My son was just assigned an interview for 2/9 in NJ, near NYC. He was contacted by his interviewer on 1/18, asked to provide his availability during the 1.5 week period she was having them and just received his slot today.
How much will getting three Bs and two As this quarter on my report card hurt my chances in getting in? I received all As except one B+ last quarter (3.82 GPA).
My DD just finished the interview and it was good. Several of her friends are scheduled the interviews in the next two week. She was assigned the first slot.
Following up re: prior year notification dates. Others already stated last year’s notification was done on Wednesday 3/21; this year, 3/21 falls on a Thursday.
I did a quick look and it seems that in 2016 and 2017 notification was done on 3/17. 3/17/17 was a Friday and 3/17/16 was a Wednesday.
SO - maybe we can suppose that notification this year will be on a Wednesday, as in 2016 & 2017, and therefore might possibly be on 3/20, since that is near the 3/21/18 date.
OR - maybe it will be on a Friday, as in 2017 and might therefore be 3/15/19 (that’d be nice!) or 3/22/19.
Or, they may flat -out refuse to be predictable and let us know on any random date after 3/15 that will qualify as “late March.”
Hi:
Anyone know about financial aid? for a family have 200K annual income , one kid, is there any chance to get the any financial aid from school? I am trying to find out if it worth to apply the fin aid? Thanks!
Regarding Financial Aid, use the calculator. It is accurate, at least it was for us.
@Notthehospital; Thanks, I used NPC, but I got zero from the school, I just not quite sure that is accurate!
Any scholarship or any other grants would be possible?
@2023CU Yes. But you would have to search for them yourself. These fall under the umbrella of ‘external scholarships’ to which you have to apply with an essay or some sort of criteria they have. I think its really hard to find appropriate scholarships that arent super competitive, like the coca cola one or something.
Good Luck!
@applicantXIX Having a few B’s doesnt lower the admissions chances, especially if the rigor of your course load was the best your school could offer or one f the more challenging ones at least.
If there are any extenuating circumstances for that, I guess that helps negate the downed performance, as long as the reason is valid.
I’m pretty sure a 3.8+ GPA is great (average/slightly above average) in an applicant pool, which certainly wont hurt your chances, and most definitely would help them, at least in the slightest.
Hope this helps.
@TheGuy1 thank you! very comforting haha
Is Northwestern Ivy League hard to get into or more like UVA/U of M kind of difficulty?
Definitely harder to get into than UVA or U of M. It’s comparable to the Ivy League
Both UVA and UMich. have OOS admit rates in the very low 20’s. NU’s admit rate for the Class of 2022 was 8.4%. Admit rates aren’t the same thing as personal chances but, all else equal, it’s significantly harder to get into NU than either UVA or UMich.
Remember, admit rates are a result of the admissions process. It doesnt mean everyones chances are that rate/defined by it. There are many who, for example, get rejected by UCSD but get in MIT, or get in MIT and not into Cornell and so on. Your status is mostly based on your skillset and its requirement in a formulated class, as decided by the AdCom. I say mostly, as theres academic competence as well, which most applicants are nowadays (3.75+ GPA and about 25th Percentile SAT/ACT and SAT II scores) as stated in the Common Data Set (CDS) of most top schools. I havent seen NU’s, but I’ll vouch for it being very similar.
There tends to form a general consensus on certain schools but thats not the case when processing apps.
Thanks. I’m just trying to figure out my odds of getting admitted. Good luck to anyone else who applied BTW.
@Mahavidya You need to factor in the slightly lower admit rate for internationals as well (regarding NU) some schools like MIT have a ~2% admit rate for internationals.
If this matters in any way (the concept of admit rates)
Oh, I hadn’t thought of that, but I’m not an international applicant. Thanks anyway though.
On NU’s application portal, there is no notation made for ‘midyear report/grades’ as received. Is that the general consensus?
