Well, that settles it.

I probably won’t receive a decision until mid-late June since my current school runs on the quarter system. Why must NU deviate from the norm? NU and Emory are the only schools that require final transcripts for transfers…even freaking Harvard makes decisions based on current grades. It’s a joke to be honest.

By the same token, I feel like the reliance on an entire year probably decreases the importance of high school stats a bit.

I hope they focus more on my college work than high school work. Those certainly weren’t my best years…
Is anyone else applying for a second time? I applied my senior year of high school, but didn’t get in. It was nice that they saved all of my application materials. I only had to send in college transcripts and a new Common App + supplement. That definitely saved me from trying to get my high school to send transcripts while I’m in New York.

So I’m assuming it might make things slightly less competitive since they require final grades and some (most) applicants aren’t aware of this rule.

I hope I get in but I won’t be upset if I don’t. Vandy is an excellent school and gave me a FA package that NU probably won’t beat. I plan on going to grad school so I wouldn’t want to bury myself in debt in the meantime. Hopefully NU will offer a similar package if I get in.

so i just sent in my final transcript.
how do you think they’ll view a slight drop in grades?
i am applying for sophomore admission from a top-20.
my cumulative gpa fell a little… but i did take 300/ 200 level classes 2nd semester and just 100 level classes first semester. will they take this into account?

=) good luck everyone!

^By a little, are we talking a .1 drop or .5 drop?

well my cumulative was 3.8. now it’s 3.6. Eeek :/

I talked to a nw transfer counselor the other day because my school is on the quarter system as well. They said to send my grades as fast as possible, however they probably will have to make their decision before they receive my final grades,

Thanks for the info coool

@coolkid14
same here bud. I guess they’ll look more heavily on hs grades?

wait…so i guess this issue isnt settled?? Northwestern will still make their decision before your guys’ final grades?

this really is a predicament for kids that have gotten lower GPAs 2nd semester…

On the other hand, it’s a boon for those of us who did significantly better in the second semester.

I don’t anticipate my GPA changing too much after this quarter (unless I f up my upcoming finals). I currently have a 3.81 so I’m hoping to stay around there. My quarter finishes on June 7th so I still have a ways to go :/

I’m done with finals!!! Well, I have take-home exams to do, but no more classes to show up for. I wonder how long they’ll wait for my final grades. Last semester, it took about 3 weeks after the exams for all of my grades to show up. Hopefully it goes much faster this time. I am 100% sure my GPA will go up, so I hope they wait for those grades because I reallllllly want them to see my improvement.

i have a question. i was informed today i won the faculty humanities writing award at my school. how would i tell northwestern about this? and is it even appropriate to do so this late in the admissions process?

^
I would say report it as soon as possible, since this is not late in the decision process at all… But of course I don’t know what stage your application is in so I don’t know if they will take this as granted… Depends on how valuable the award is.

Just got the message that my application is complete. Anyone here on this thread received this before submitting their final grades? I know final grades is a essential part for evalucation but I don’t know if I should ask if they have received it…

@kusuri I received that email around late April. I think we still need to send our final transcripts.
