Just called and they said that a decision hasn’t been made on my application yet and that it was “still in circulation.” They also said that they wanted to have all of them done by June 15.

If you haven’t sent/received your final grades yet (like me) because you’re on the quarter system, just fax/email them an unofficial grade report and send them the official when you get it.

NU is probably waiting until they receive all of the second semester transcripts from those students who are on the quarter system before making the majority of their decisions. I sent in my final grades weeks ago, and still haven’t received a decision most likely because NU can’t fully evaluate the applicants until all of the applications are complete.

I see the contradiction of two posts above mine. So NU makes final decision by June 15th for those students who are on semseter but not for students on quarter?

i doubt they’re going to wait until they see everyone’s quarter grades. people have already been admitted/ rejected. even last year the thread holds true. so june 15th, eh?

i feel as though if they feel comfortable admitting you without final grades, they will. if not, they may reject you. but i highly doubt they will stop admitting/ rejecting until everyone’s final grades have been received.

The said finalizing date of decisons is fast approaching but there are not a lot of decisions released these days, at least from this thread… Which makes me guess the majority of the decisions will be released on that day…

I called the admissions office today and they said they don’t have any “precise dates” for finalizing their decisions. She keeps saying that the decisions will be made during June. Exactly when are you indicating as for “that day”? June 15th? i think I’ve seen a reply that most of the decisions will be made on 15th…

I’m aware of that, but don’t you think those applications received such a late response due to special circumstances? I think the majority of decisions will be mailed out on June 15th. Most other colleges require an enrollment decision and deposit by then, so I hope NU will give us the courtesy of a timely decision.

does anyone know if NU accepts letters of appeal to reconsider applications? I haven’t received a decision yet, but if I’m rejected I would send a letter lol even though I know it wouldn’t likely change anything at all

These are all my conclusions, nothing official. But It makes the most logical sense from looking at fall 2008, 2009, and 2010 threads.

The first batch will be mailed/received today (Friday, June 10). This will allow 3 weeks for students to make a decision until June 30th (when the final batch rolls out). So starting today, expect decisions to be mailed out, with main batches every 7 days. So that “last” batch who receives decisions in July will have their decisions mailed June 30th, AFTER the first batch’s deadline to respond has passed.

Economics applicants tends to get decisions last since it is the most “competitive” and NU wants to evaluate all applicants, including quarter students, before sending out decisions.

The people who received decisions in May/Early June were either extremely well qualified or under-qualified, so NU did not need their spring grades.

Accepted applicants tend to receive their decision in a FedEx package although a few receive it through snail mail/USPS.

“Economics applicants tends to get decisions last since it is the most “competitive” and NU wants to evaluate all applicants, including quarter students, before sending out decisions.”

I don´t believe decision schedules are a function of intended major at all. If anything, the college to which you are applying will determine the level of competition and therefore the possible admission schedule which you refer to. I remember that in one of my phone calls to Northwestern, I was questioned about the major I selected in my application. After having answered, I asked why the question was placed and was told that they “don’t really look at the selected major, but yes at the college to which you are applying as you can change your major once you are admitted.”

“The people who received decisions in May/Early June were either extremely well qualified or under-qualified, so NU did not need their spring grades.”

This, I have been very curious about since it was first talked about here. As far as I am concerned, this theory is not valid. Why? Quite simply because I am a SPLENDID example of an “under-qualified” applicant and am, as of yet, awaiting a response from them. Further, I also questioned Northwestern about this and was told no such thing happens because the applications are randomly assigned to the various admissions committees (albeit, they’d ever acknowledge the existence of such procedure).

All will come in good time and natural selection (you get the idea) will masterfully reign surpreme!
