Hey! I've been following this board for a little over a year now (only got my ID and password to work recently), and I too am hoping for an HPME interview...and getting quite anxious about it. =/

Is it necessarily bad if I haven't received one yet??

twinklestar146, do not worry. You may get the interview card as late as mid-/late-February. It all depends on how the early interviews turn out. I got one in mid-January only because I sent in my materials super early. (I think in November..)

I'm a Canadian citizen who is currently studying overseas at an international school in China. Would I still be able to apply for Northwestern's HPME given my situation? I know that HPME doesn't accept international applicants, but I am a Canadian citizen so I don't what the rules are for my case. If I were a valid candidate, how would the interview take place? By phone? Thanks in advance for any advice or help you guys can provide.

alarm bells goirulz: international applicants = non-US passport? or overseas students?

anyway, here's how it's going for me: I'm a US citizen living in China. The deadline to send in the HPME request card was quite a bit ago, so hopefully you weren't wanting to apply this year. I got an interview from HPME and they are being great corresponding with me via email so that it doesn't take 2 weeks for their info to reach me. They're letting me have a later interview (March) because I'm overseas, and I'm in the middle of exams, but yes, I do have to fly to Chicago.

Wonder if somewhere in there I answered a q or two of yours : )

Thanks Lmell - it's good to know I've still got a chance. Out of curiosity - are there any other HPME applicants here still waiting for an interview notification?

Thanks guys! The news about international applicants being persona grata just lifted my spirits =) BTW mea, I'm currently a junior studying at Shanghai American School, but as I'm starting my college search process, I'd like to know what options are open to me. What school do you attend in China?

A few weeks back, when I went to the interview for HPME, I talked to my bro's friends who are majority HPME kids. It seems like 70% thought they really bombed the interviews, so it makes me wonder how much the interview is worth. Also, my interview was sooo laidback. It was practically a conversation-- good/bad? Just FYI

For you who are waiting, my brother got his interview mid feb, so dont lose hope. Good luck to you all!

hey, sure- sorry i've been out a lot with interviews and tennis trips- florida's tennis season is in the winter. anyone who wants the powerpoint can IM me at SilverWarrior8, and I will send it to them.

it was really casual, but i think they try to look for actual passion. I saw the scoring sheet that the interviewers are supposed to grade on....the ones my interviewers had were pink with 8-10 categories, each ranked 1-10. i can only guess what each category was though.
