I would be happy to send you the powerpoint, if you send me your e-mail adress. Everyone who will be admitted is required to have an interview; however, i have heard of kids doing phone interviews- just make sure that you set your watch for central time!

For those asking about the interviews- you will have two interview one with a 2nd year med student and another with a faculty member from the med. school. Hope this helps!

Can you please let us know what they ask at the interview. Any other interview tips for Northwestern and particularly the midwest are appreciated.

I am not asking for specific questions, but you could definitely let me know how long the interview was, how many people interviewed, was the interview general or more technical, etc. etc. I dont think you should be worried of your chances.

buckwald i can't PM u...and i don't think i'm allowed to post it here...

my interview with the doctor lasted ~40 minutes, nothing out of the ordinary. they examine why you have a desire for medicine a lot more than in average interviews.

student interview was a little more ackward, especially because my interviewer seemed really new at the talking while eating thing. they ask essentially the exact same questions because they were all trained that way i guess. about one hour for that one, but it got cut short because i had to leave.

the day i went, i saw three other people, 2 that i talked with and know are HPME applicatns, and one that i assumed was. i'm sure if you do a little research you can be knowledgable about what kind of questions will be asked.

I called last week, they said my son's file is under review. I recalled they received English teacher's rec. after Dec....My son is waiting for interview also.

hey : )...? I was wondering if someone could do me a huge favor and summarize what I need to know from the mailed HPME info when they give you your interview time. HPME's trying to fax it to me because I live on jupiter, but somehow no fax number I'm providing is working.

ack, sorry, the process has been a little different from me - I'm corresponding via email rather than mail so we arranged an interview that way.

A summary of the mailed HPME stuff, anyone : ) ... I know it's quite a favor, but just in case there's anything I need to know.

The packet just had directions to the NU undergrad campus, and the med. School campus. And the letter said you can stay with an undergraduate HPME student if you want.

Hey, I got my interview notice today. Yay!!! Anyway, someone asked this question earlier...does this mean our stats dont matter anymore, that its all based on the interview now?

Also, does this kind of mean we're basically into Northwestern (even if not HPME)?

i think it kinda means that we are in, at least according to my interview with the engineering school. after i finished the interview with the doctor and the HPME student, i went to tech and did a 30 min "interview" with a BME professor and the dean (!!!). i put quotes around the word interview becasue it realy wasn't an interview. the BME prof essentially told me about their cirriculum, their classes, the opportunities available, etc. he knew i was a HPME applicant, so he concentrated on talking about how most BME classes don't overlap with pre-med requirements. he asked me a couple questions as to why i wanted to study BME, but nothign too intensive. it was really really informative, and not interview-like at all. the one with the dean was even more laid back. i answered less than 8 questions, and most of them were like "so you're from cincinnati?" or "so you're an HPME applicant?"

so i'd guess that most people who got HPME interviews are essentially locks for acceptnace. assuming 140 got interviews like last year, i'd guess at least 120 of them will get accepted to NU (to be conservative)

I mostly agree. I think the large majority of HPME interviewees will be into northwestern, but I don't think aries' interview was casual because she/others like her have already been accepted or anything. Rather, they'll probably get in because - well, if they're competitive for HPME, they're competitive for northwestern, and an interest in their med program may make NU more assured that good applicants will enroll (yield stats or whatever it is : )). From what I hear, NU interviews have generally been casual - I know mine was, extremely so - before I was interviewed, another interviewer was chatting to his colleague on how he'd just written "Very Good" for all of them. Looks like it's meant to be more an info session.

It will be very strange (disasterous) to get accepted into HPME but rejected by Northwestern. The probability of that is very small but I wonder if they do any cross-checking to make sure that doesn't happen. :)

I'm sure they do cross checking. I was just reading up on this in the oldddd forums.

Anyway, i'm going for my interview next Wednesday. I'll be all by myself in Chicago, so if anyone has an interview around that day and will be in Chicago on the 8th/9th...PM me...

Sam Lee: I think I read on their website that they make the final decisions in conjunction with the University. I don't think your 'strange' situation will occur then...I hope...man, that would be awful, hehe.
