yeah i think so. It should help alot b/c HPME kids only have 3 years in the undergrad.

BhangraKid: yeah, we can use AP credits. This is the last year that NU allows 6 of the 12 distribution requirement credits to be satisified through AP. Next year, they will reduce the number of credits allowed for distribution reqs to 2.

Also, they allow up to 12 AP credits to be used for COURSE credit, which means you can take higher level courses. From what I heard in a fall issue of the Daily Northwestern, they are debating the issue of reducing that as well.

In addition, HPME kids only have to take 1 freshman seminar (a writing-intensive course required during freshman year) instead of 2. Ultimately, I believe that allows much freedom in course selection, though that HPME obviously still requires certain pre-med courses.

hm...why are they reducing it, neo?

I'm not sure. This is only for the Weinberg school and takes effect for freshmen entering in 2006. A few faculty opposed the change, citing the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" reason.

Here's the article from October 22, 2004.

I got my accepted letter to HPME. Will just have to convince myself and my parents to spend the 45K/Year. I turned down REMS because it is too far from home and got regular Engineering admission to Washinton University ST Louis (50% scholarship) Case Western (Trustee Scholarship), Emory (2/3 Scholarship) and USC (Waiting for trustee scholarship result), Michigan (50% Scholarship), Tulsa and Nebraska (Full but not going to go there), Arizona (1/2 Scholarsip) awaiting Johns Hopkins result. Now comes the tough part whether make my parents spend 45K/Yr or go to USC (if i get full and take the MCAT) or Case Western (Take the MCAT) Never made it two finalist for the medical program. Let us wait and see for few days. Very hard decision

congrats!
