Yay! Thank you for answering my question.

stl2cali2k1: looks pretty good to me. keep working on getting good grades/scores and you should be a strong candidate by next year. Keep in mind, however, that HPME students all do well in school and what really puts them apart from others is that they have a strong passion for medicine.

hey cirohpue, haven't seen you in a while.

Hey guys, I don't want to bore you with the "here are my stats..will i make it into hpme!!" but i would rather want to ask a certain question
the thing is with my school, they are taking out AP Euro in 10th gr and AP USH in 11th gr and replacing it with regular world history in 10th and regular us history in 11th, and all the teachers hav been blabbing, that we are fully prepared to get a 5 on the AP exam

this will not hinder my chances to get in, huh?

hmm, that is interesting. your school is getting rid of AP classes and replacing them with college preparatory classes? As long as your school doesn't offer the APs, I don't think it will hurt you.

Guys.... i have a real big problem.... i am from india and i need some help in finding an apt university for biomedical sciences or biomedical engineering (MS program)...
i very badly need an university in CHICAGO...!!!! because if get it done in chicago i can stay with my uncle who s also in chicago ..!!!! so can anyone .....???? !!Please

Hey, I'm currently a sophomore in HS, and am considering graduating early (skipping junior year basically). Though I'm seriously considering applying to HPME.

Do you think it would be beneficial to just stick out another year of HS so that I can get more EC's and etc?

yea stick it out another year. its a drag not to be 18 in college. i have a december bday and i feel so young =(. imagine being 16-early 17

Unless you've already Aced the SAT/ACT and have several published papers in various respected journals, probably not a good idea. I think Neil Patrick Harris tried something like that, in case you're leaning that way.

Hey, ForeverMine, you should think about USC's Resident Honors Program. They take students who have finished their Jr. year of high school. Instead of going to Sr. year, you just start at USC a year early, and then you graduate with your HS class in June (using USC credits to satisfy your HS requirements.) All RHP students get at least a 25% merit scholarship. I believe you can apply to the BaccMD program at the same time. Look for threads about RHP on the USC board.

I personally don't think that skipping is advisable or particularly impressive. Give yourselfna proper senior year and enjoy yourself. After all, hpme already cutting a year out of your undergrad. It is interesting to note that hpme often encourages students to differ their medical acceptances and take time off after undergrad

question about recs....

I know we need one from an english teacher regarding our writing ability/english skills but for the math rec should we ask the person writing it to specifically focus on our mathematical ability or can it just be a letter that touches upon the teacher's opinion of me due the time I spent in his math classes?

what will poor SAT II chem score do to my HPME chances? Grades 4.63W/3.9 uw no rank but in top 5, all honors/ap, hospital volunteering, etc.
SAT: 2350 770m, 780V, 800W; ACT 35

Am thinking of retake in Nov. but not much time to go up.

hmm what's the possibility for international students to get into hpme?

A few years ago(2 or 3?), there was a Korean stuent got in HPME.

in the nu viewbook theres is an international (maybe russian?) student profile and he is in HPME

Hey guys,

Another question: what AP's are accepted? (and for what scores)

And: For subjects tests, do I need to take the Chem and MathII only, or should I take a third as well?

While we're on the topic of international students ...

I am currently a senior in a school in Canada. My school does not offer AP, Honors, or IB courses. We only have "enhanced" courses, which I am enrolled in. I would say that I have taken all of the heavy courses that my school has offered. However, I took many of these courses in my junior year. For example, I took enhanced Calculus, enhanced Chemistry, and enhanced Advanced Functions (all senior courses) in my junior year. This year, I have taken 2 spares because there are basically no more challenging courses for me to take. Would this hurt my chances of getting in?

Also, I know this has been asked infinite times, but could you please offer a quick opinion on my stats?

SAT I: 2320 - Writing: 730, Math: 800, CR: 750
SAT II: Chem: 800, Math II: 800 (planning to take biology in December)
[No GPA or rank available]
Average: ~93%

Basically, considering that I am a international student, is it worth my time to apply to HPME?

I was wondering what my chances are of getting into the program. I actually live in Il so... Anyways, I'm an Asian male at a very competitive public high school. We offer 21 AP classes and a lot of honors classes. All classes I've taken were AP/honors, except for 3 required classes, PE, and this CAD class I took out of sheer stupidity... I'm currently a senior taking 7 AP classes and 1 lunch. Here's some info:

GPA: 3.86 UW, 4.79 W (Oh, all my B+'s were in English...)
Rank: 62 UW, 22 W (sucks...will this kill my chances?.. it's not my fault our year will probably have like 15 ivy's/mit/stanford students.... T___T)
ACT: 34 Comp-36 M/36 S/35 E/29 R/07 Essay and 33 Comp-34 M/34 S/34 E/31 R/08 Essay... (Apparently I suck at Reading and Writing...)
SAT: 2170- 720/720/730 (Idk which is which, they all suck...)
SAT II: Math II 800, Chem 770, Physics 700 (They don't care about this right..?)
AP: 4-Gov, Econ, US History; 5-Physics, Stats
Will take AP Lang, Lit, German, Calc B/C, Chem, Bio, Psych, Chinese.

Awards:

Captain of Math Team (We won regionals last 2 years..)

Played piano for last 13 years.. but no one cares...

Community Service:
~300-400 Hours at hospital as nurse assistant.
~20? Hours Peer Tutor during lunch hour at school

I think I will get very good Teacher Recs since I picked teachers that like me and have seen my math/writing skills...

So... I'm thinking my chances are like 20%?...or less? Should I bother applying for HPME? My ACT/SAT II's are decent...(Seriously, you don't need Reading for medicine xD). But my rank fails... If I don't get into HPME, how likely will I be able to get into Northwestern under Bio Major? Same with UChicago, WashU, and JHopkins =D

insusurro,

I knew two HPMEs that were internationals when I was there; they both had multicultural background-one was from Korea and one was from Canada but they were both Chinese.
