please post here rather than pm so that we all can see. stanfordready when is your interview?

"How is this NW HPME program compared to Caltech/UCSD Medical Scholars program ? "

NU HPME is a single university where you are moving from undergrad to med school. For the caliber of student that is accepted, the requirements seem to be minimal to progress onto medical school.

Caltech and USCD are separate schools and not tied in much at all other than having a program together. Maintaining 3.5 GPA at Caltech is considered onerous.

the HPME interviews were… as I expected them to be. It’s a prestigious program, so expect a potpurri of questions and be emotionally prepared for some facepalm moments. HPME definitely has one of the more grueling interview processes.

I think I overheard the (very cordial and flexible) coordinator saying ~40 accepted out of ~160 interviewees. Once you schedule your HPME interview, they will send you an email within 3 days with all the details (ie: how many people will interview you, itinerary, blah blah).

Hindsight will be 20/20, but just be your courteous, polite self expressing your real passions and rest assured that you gave it your best shot. That’s how I felt at the end… Oh and just a heads up: If you lie or make up stories (booooooo), these HPME interviewers will see right through your facade quicker than you can say medicine.

Logistics and outcome aside, enjoy your time at the beautiful Feinberg campus (right by the Lake!) and Chicago :)

Invited to interview! I found out after school Friday, so I’m scheduling tomorrow.

Everyone has been saying the interview is pretty tough, especially with curveball questions…
anyone willing to be more explicit about what the questions were? I heard one of them is like “What’s your biggest failure?” Any others? All help is greatly appreciated!

Good luck to everyone at their interviews!

@wuddupbuttercup, how was your interview? Can u tell us what questions to expect?
Thanks.

Can anyone here give some interview tips?

all interviews are done right?

fallpsat - When I got my invitation email I remember reading that I could pick a date up to March 8… so they should be almost done!

oh ok, ours said end of Feb. SO thought it was over.

Does anyone know if the decisions come by email or post mail?

They are announced at the sametime as NU undergrad results. So by email/email link?

In the previous years I think the decision came out around April 10th by email.

For HPME? No, they come out exactly when undergrad results do. Many are usually shocked to find themselves on waitlists when they don’t get into HPME.

Ok. so perhaps NU RD comes out around April 10th? I know from previous posts that the HPME results came out around that time frame.

They come out by march 28

@texaspg, matrix007, and fallpsat.

When my daughter was accepted into HPME in 2010, the Undergraduate Regular Decision came out online on Thursday, March 25th. She then received the HPME acceptance by regular mail one week later on Thursday, April 1st.

All of the applicants who were denied or waitlisted for the undergraduate portion … obviously, did not get into HPME.

Some of the applicants who were accepted for the undergraduate portion … were also accepted into HPME. Therefore, at least one more week of anxiety.

Good luck.

Thanks @DualDoc finally a clear answer from some one who has first hand experience :)

dualdegreedoc - perhaps the process has changed since then. I know at least two people who got in last year (one of them joined) and they were aware as of Saturday (3/24/2012) based on personal emails I have traded with their parents. If we go back on this thread to 3/23/2012, we can see people wondering about being waitlisted and what it means to their HPME admission.

It appears from comments on other threads that NW RD decisions would likely come out this Friday. HPME to shortly follow ? Anxiety factor on the upward move again…

My son got the good word from NU just now - now waiting anxiously for HPME results.
