Guys, we got this.

Jorabamama -

likewise nice to see another mom here! DD is REALLY hoping for good news from NU but seems to keeping too busy to stress much (big audition on Monday) plus she has a healthy attitude that she can’t do more to change the outcome at this point.

I’ve heard from many others who have gone through this that almost all of the kids ultimately land in a great place, but I sure don’t remember the process being this involved when we applied to college!

best of luck everyone!

After seeing some of these other applicants’ ACT scores and whatnot, I feel like I have no shot whatever at getting in, even with early decision. It looks like the majority of you guys have 30+ ACT’s while I’m feeling a little inadequate with a 28.

Nevertheless, I too am anxiously awaiting December 15.

If joebass’s post was on facebook, I would like it.

Hey guys, first time posting here
applying to Medill! I am sooo nervous… anyone have any idea when the results will come out?? They’ll probably come out earlier than the 15th, right? I don’t think I can wait til then hahah

There are a few things I wonder about (stuck alone in a hotel room with time to kill)…

1). If they have 25% more ED aps to process, can we assume decisions might not be made quite as early as prior years (but still by Dec 15)?

2). Do FA packets also get sent by Dec. 15 or do they follow shortly.

3). If there are 25% more ED aps, will they accept proportionately more people, or perhaps defer proportionately more, or will ED just be that much more competitive than RD?

4). How many of the people accepted ED are typically recruited athletes, and is there any reason that number would be different (higher OR lower) this year?

5). Do former Cherubs who apply ED have any advantage over those who didn’t participate in that specific summer program (especially in theatre)?

I just made the mistake of looking at the Stats page at CC for NU, which reinforced the fact that plenty of kids with great Stats are rejected, but on the other hand I know there are kids rejected NU and accepted at Yale so there will undoubtedly be good options for everyone whatever happens.

Oh… And one last thing I just noticed and now wonder about…

On the Common AP it shows that NU downloaded everything in November except for the Parent part of the ED agreement, which they apparently still haven’t downloaded. I now wonder if that is a bad sign?

It’s sure lucky DD is busy and not as whacky as I am so she’s not making herself crazy wondering about all these things. When I get home I’ll have to guard against planting all these questions in her head so the next weeks can pass more quickly for her, but if anyone has thoughts about any of these things I’m darn curious! :-)

bigdawg, have you visited the school? They say showing a personal interest in NU helps. We went twice, wishing we had gone 100 times! We’re pretty nervous with 30 on the ACT too, but you have to keep in mind, if the median is 30-34, there have to be some that are a bit lower right? Keep you chin up! I wish they would read this thread and realize how very much it means to these kids! Good luck!

Momcares, by daughters app also show the parent portion of the common app as “submitted”. That does make me nervous? Anyone else checked theirs?

You moms are so sweet! Even if your kids don’t get in, they’ll have a great support system.

I think (think=hope) that the rise in apps means they’ll accept proportionately more, but I guess there’d be more deferrals, too. Cherubs probably do have an advantage, too, because Northwestern will have staff who might know the student personally (unless they didn’t like you. That would bite.).

Did you (or your daughters) get an e-mail from Northwestern stating the application was received and under review? If you did, I’m sure everything’s fine.

Thanks Grace! Yes, my daughter did get the email that everything was recieved and was being reviewed, (after we got her stupid high school counselor to sign her portion, argh). The concern is, they may have reviewed the app and found it unnecessary to upload the parent agreement because they were not accepted. Did you parent signature get uploaded? And I agree with you, I think they will take proportionately more kids in ED with the rise in applications. I wish they’d just take you all! I know my daughter will get into a good school, but I just can’t picture her anywhere else! I have it all planned out…one day her boyfriend, who will then be her husband, will be the Mayor of Evanston and he will where purple tights and lead the parades down the streets. I will be the party planner at the Mayoral mansion and we’ll all live happily ever after! :)

Mine just says “submitted” not downloaded, so you should be fine.

Whew, thanks Grace!

Glad to hear DD’s isn’t the only parental ED that shows “submitted” versus " downloaded". Does anyone’s actually say “downloaded” yet?

Also glad we moms look supportive instead of crazed. :-)

I got a 30 on my ACT, as well, so I’m a littler nervous that I’m going to be on the lower end of the applicants spectrum. NU was always a reach, though, so all I can do now is hope for the best!

I can’t wait to hear back!
I got a 30 as well (31 super scored). However, I was wondering if because I’m majoring in English will it help that I got a 35 on reading and a 33 on english? My low score was in math. Any ideas?

Yeah, I got a 31, and after seeing all these 33+ scores I’m beginning to be nervous too! I want to be a theatre major, and I was hoping they would look at my subscores as well because my low score was the science. Other than science, I got 32+ on everything. I also didn’t do Cherubs so I hope that doesn’t hurt my chances.
I didn’t know theatre at NU was so competetive! I’m hoping that not a ton of other prospective theatre majors did ED since the other major theatre schools (Carnegie Mellon, NYU, Michigan, etc…) don’t do early decision for theatre or musical theatre in case they don’t want to be binded to one program.
I’ve also only taken 2 APs because I go to a private international boarding school all of our classes are really hard so the maximum amount of APs were allowed to take per year is 3. (The reason I’ve only taken 2 is because I’m not in AP math or AP spanish, but I’ve done AP history and AP science.) My school doesn’t even have AP English because our courses are “so rigorous”. I’m hoping that the admissions officers will look at that in context?
Ah that was long… 10 days! Or 8? Do we know? Fingers crossed!

I don’t know Chelly, but I’m pretty sure that ACT is never superscored… Not sure though. I only took it once, got 32, was content :)

I’m super nervous for Dec. 15! I got a 34 but you never know with NU, good luck to all!

which post is that?
