I know, it doesn’t seem fair! Seeing that some acceptances have already gone out has put a big knot in my belly!

Hey, everyone, we went through this last year, so I emailed my S, currently a freshman at NU, to see what he remembered, and this is the text of the email I received back from him,
“There was a link that you had to open in the e-mail. The subject of the e-mail was something like “Application Status Update” or something. And I found out December 14, 2009. So whatever day of the week that was.”

Good luck to everyone!

Oh good, thank you so much momof3sons! That makes me feel better. I don’t want her getting the news alone. I wish I had higher hopes of a yes, but with only a 30 on the ACT I am not feeling really confident. You don’t happen to know from last year, are there a lot of kids who apply early decision who have under the median scores, or are they all pretty qualified candidates? Thanks again!

I know this is bad…but does anyone know what time of day NU typically sends out the email (whether on the 10th, 13th, etc.)? Wondering whether I should stay up until midnight or get up at 5am on the west coast!

I did ask about timing when I called today, and the lady said she did not know an approximate time of day the email would go out. But, again, I didn’t feel real confident in anything she had to say :(

They already sent out Questbridge acceptances.

Yes, Questbridge operates on an entirely different schedule.

As to when the email is likely to go out, I seem to have a recollection that it was early evening, EST, so probably at some point after the Admissions Office closes for the day. Makes sense that they wouldn’t want to be barraged with phone calls.
Then again, who knows if they will keep to that this year.

If you look back over the last few years, the emails frequently have come out in the early evening. I think it was about 6PM CST my son’s year. No guaranty that will be the case again though. Good luck to all!

hmm…ok so does anyone know for sure if we find out tomorrow or Monday? I know schools like UPenn and Columbia find out today/tomorrow.

Cornell and Columbia just found out.

Destroyer – Too funny! ;-D

if you’re poor , but never did the QB thing (did not know about it til too late), do you think one still has a chance at NU, or does NU satisfy its ‘poor quota’ with QB, and therefore if a poorer kid applied but was not in the QB bunch, there might not be anything in that black bag for that kid (see Dorothy at the end of WOZ when the wizard was doling out his gifts).

That is, I assume NU allows for a certain amt of charity cases where the college pays virtually the full cost due to need, but obviously cannot do that beyond a certain number of admits.

I definately think you still have a chance. I do believe that the admissions people do not look at the financial package, that is done separately by financial aide. I wouldn’t worry about the Questbridge thing. Look at it this way, some acceptances have gone out, so yours should be coming soon! Good luck!

beyond the QB acceptances?

I thought the schedule was around the Ides of December, the 15th or so?

what are the stats of those that went out so far -perfect academics/test scores/ECs and do not require FA?

NU at least states that they have need-blind admissions so it should have no affect either way.

the suspense!! Could be 24 more hours guys :)

why is there 500 posts in this ‘waiting for ED’ thread when there were only 25 in the similar 2007 thread that someone referred above?

Despite what they say in their handouts - a reference to JC Superstar - I would think need blind is impossible to have govern for the whole class since it would overturn the economics of the institution. maybe for a certain part or slice of the class NU might allow for poorer people in and for THOSE slots , it would be need blind, but not for the whole class.

Does Northwestern notify you by email only? Or is there a website that they post the admissions results on?

I notice that a pretty close peer of NU, WSTL (ranked 13th to NU’s 12), had only 47 posts in their ED thread this yr. maybe NU-ites are a more talkative bunch, at least this yr?
