Northwestern University Early Decision thread 2010

Thanks for being such a positive person out there…i was following the chat all day today wondering if they would hear and we got good news…sorry you didn’t but we could have been in the same boat very easily so hope it works out for your daughter and BF…sounds like she has a lot going on so I am sure she will have a great future.

December 2010

Dear So and So:

Congratulations and welcome to the Class of 2015 at Northwestern University! On behalf of the Northwestern faculty, students, and alumni, it gives me great pleasure to inform you that you have been admitted to the Judd A. and Marjorie Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences.

The admission committee evaluates tens of thousands of applications each year, and your considerable academic achievements, extra-curricular accomplishments, and impressive character stood out as truly exceptional. You will be joining a community that includes engaged faculty, students with diverse talents and backgrounds, and spirited alumni.

Northwestern will immerse you in an environment with limitless possibilities to learn, make a difference, and define your path for future success. We are confident you will make a significant contribution to the life of the University, both in and out of the classroom.

At this time, you will need to withdraw all other applications you may have submitted to other institutions, as indicated in the Early Decision agreement you signed. Please note, our offer of admission is contingent upon the successful completion of your senior year and a review of your final transcript. In the next few days via mail, you will receive an official copy of your decision letter and materials which outline the steps you will need to take to enroll in the Class of 2015.

It is our good fortune that you chose to apply to Northwestern; I look forward to welcoming you to campus next fall. The time you spend on our campus will be among the most memorable years of your life.

Sincerely,

Someone post the rej if you would

ACCEPTED- Theatre!!!
Cannot wait to go back! Have an awesome year! And to those rejected, I am sure you will find the perfect college for you in regular decision

and averby- it is voluntary response bias, people decided if they will post and there is a higher chance that people accepted will post

I would also like to add that if you were rejected, though I’m sure you all will get into really good other schools, it’s definitely okay to be pi$$ed about it right now. I would be.

Also, someone asked if accepted people could post stats. This thread has some:

destroyer, its just brutal cuz its a rejection letter haha. ya i’m pretty depressed but grats

I was unable to get my northwestern notification for a few possible reasons:

Which reason seams most likely?
1)I have my yahoo mail auto-delete spam messages that come in
2) I sent my application by mail
3) They had a little delay in recieving my application but everything eventually got through

Well i guess my real question is…how long until i recieve the notification by mail?

oh i know. I’d be ****ed. i had my other apps all prepared and everything. Sad thing is none of my family wanted me to be accepted. They all wanted me to go to BYU with my cousins, sooo i was cheering alone!

I got into the McCormick school of engineering!! I was so psyched and didn’t even know we had the possibility of finding out today until I saw this thread for the first time during school today I always thought it would be December 15th and I was dying waiting!

Congrats to everyone who got in!!!

@TRISKAIDEKPhoebe: I know! I didn’t even realize the emails were out until my friend started talking about it. I still can’t believe I got accepted… Congrats on getting in! :)

Wow my D got into McCormick as well. Surprised by the email today. We were just waiting for firends who applied to Dartmouth!

6:01 Pm was when my D got hers from McCormack

GOSH CONGRATS TO EVERYONE!!! I’m so excited. It’s such a weird feeling that I’ll be running into all of you next fall. I cannot wait!

I just want the financial aid to come now!! And I want to sign up for dorms, I am so unbelievably happy!!

Someone needs to make a countdown till september 20th or whatever. Whenever classes start haha

why do they start sooo late??? It’s ridiculous. I want to go NOW!

really, this letter is the worst letter I received in my life. I wish I received the other version.

December 2010

Dear So and So:

The admission committee has concluded its evaluation of Early Decision applicants to Northwestern University. I am sorry we are unable to offer you a place in the freshman class. Since Northwestern was your first choice, I understand this news is very disappointing.

Given the relatively small size of the incoming freshman class and the strength of the applicant pool, we cannot admit all of the qualified applicants who apply to Northwestern. You should not feel our decision reflects negatively on you or your potential as a college student. We simply are unable to admit all of the students who present a solid record of achievement.

The task of selecting a class is a difficult one for the admission committee. We carefully reviewed every piece of information you submitted with your application. Unfortunately, we cannot provide specific reasons why each individual decision is made. The document linked here, A Statement from the Dean, may answer some of your questions about our admission process.

The admission committee appreciates the time and effort you put into applying to Northwestern. I wish you every success as you pursue your education.

Sincerely,

Christopher Watson
Dean of Undergraduate Admission

@ weeturtle
WOW COOL! I’ll be seeing you then!
I’m from Orange County California :)

@weeturtle and @corncake… sounds like my daughter will run into you in the theatre/dance programs as well since she’s an MT kid, and another west coast kid. She can’t wait to meet you all!!

I didn’t expect to get in, so I jumped in the air and I woke up my mom at 11:30 at night.

are these correspondences that I am seeing lately in this thread from NU re rej or acc snail mail or email?

any deferrals in the lot?
