The pressure from the school workload and lack of time from frosh/soph tennis resulted in 6 Bs my Freshman year.

I hope i can major in engineering, but I think I will apply as undecided.

My dream schools are Ivy Leagues, but they are reaches due to my low GPA.

I really would like to know colleges, public or private, 9th grade gpa is weighted less or not counted at all.

Which kind of colleges would be safe and suitable to apply?

Is Ivy League too much of reach?

I will be thankful for your replies.

You’re GPA is outstanding. What are you talking about? It’s your ACT score that will hurt you, especially as an ORM.

You should check out Michigan and UT- Austin.

Yea really improve your ACT and you should be fine. Not many freshman and sophmores take that rigorous of a schedule so I’d say that your in a better standing than you think. If you can really get your ACT 33+ or even 34+ then I think you stand a good chance of upper tier colleges. You should look at UMich, Georgia Tech, maybe Carnegie Melon, UT Austin, Illinois Urbana Champaign, and Purdue. I think you have a good shot at all of those. Maybe get your counselor to explain your struggles in the beginning. Also if you’re applying internationally it might be harder for you.

Chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1667312-chance-me-please-top-tier-colleges.html#latest

I am practicing ACT to get to above 33.
My current ACT superscore is 33.

If I can achieve around 34 or 35, what would be the colleges I can take a shot at?

Thanks.

Everything above 34 looks the same. I don’t get why people on here say that. “If you get almost a perfect score, you would be in better shape”. Well, duh! Your ACT is low for an Ivy League, but you should set your sights elsewhere as well and be reasonable. A 2-3 point increase is all you really need for those schools though. It’s unlikely that you will go from 30 to 35, but you can look at any school with a 35.

I actually would agree with you that your GPA is low for the top Ivies (HYP). Your ACT score isn’t great, and I would recommend retaking it. Still, you’d be best off with a school that will superscore the ACT if you can’t significantly improve it, since you said your superscore is a 33 currently. Here’s a list of schools that will do exactly that:

http://www.freetestprep.com/blog/resources/list-of-colleges-and-universities-that-superscore-the-act-test/

If you want an Ivy, I recommend applying ED to Cornell. They superscore the ACT, and you are definitely qualified with regard to everything else. It isn’t a guarantee, by any means, but I’d say it would only be a low reach school for you. Best of luck!
