I did not achieve a satisfactory grade in a 1 credit class. It doesn't affect my GPA one way or the other, but it shows up as "no credit" on my transcript. I can selectively withdraw and it shows up as "withdrawn". If I want to transfer to WM, does either option, or both, negatively impact my chances?

Glad you’re interested in transferring.

The application will require you to explaini all withdraws, grades below a C, or any other less than satisfactory grades on your transcript. So honestly, it’s the explanation that matters more than the W vs the NS.

Hope that’s helpful.

Thank you,

What exactly do you mean by an explanation?

The Common Application will ask you to provide a written explanation for why you received a bad grade or why you withdrew from a class. So whether it was an extended illness, a family/job application or simply a course that got the best of you, you will be asked to tell us why you withdrew from a course/got a less-than-satisfactory grade.
