Thanks! And Zoology/Premed.

My daughter has been accepted to Miami and will probably attend. My question is about the reputation Miami has being super conservative and somewhat snobby. I certainly don’t believe everything I hear but so many people I’ve talked to have this impression of Miami. I would love to hear your thoughts, opinions on this… Thanks.

My S is an OOS freshman this year at Miami. He loves it and has had no problem making friends. He has not found people snobby, but he did upgrade his wardrobe - more collared shirts etc.

As far as the politics, when we were there in October for Family Weekend, I saw as many or more Democratic signs than Republican ones. That being said, I would say that Miami is more conservative than many campuses - such as Madison or Ann Arbor.

Thanks for the comments and links. Great information. I was very impressed when we
visited Miami and I think my daughter will be very happy there!

brotherin, I’m sure you know…Miami grads have very high med school acceptance. Work hard, and GOOD LUCK!!

Jackson, to me, the sign of an “accepting” University is one where conservatives AND liberals feel welcome. I think most kids at MU feel that they are entitled to their opinions…which is not true for conservative kids on a lot of campuses…which in my mind, makes the universality of thought to be SUSPECT on a lot of campuses.

Received the “official” EA acceptance letter today. Although I knew it was coming I’m stilled thrilled! I need to go back for another visit (hopefully one where it isn’t raining sideways!) and get a feel for the campus. Good Luck to those still waiting!

No letter today in VA. This just means a sleepless night–either stay up til midnight or jump out of bed at 4 a.m.

Good luck to all who are waiting for their EA acceptances! My daughter was in your
position last year. She is currently a freshman at Miami, in the Honors program, and loving it. I fully understand that concept of “raining sideways”. It was doing exactly that when my
daughter and I attended orientation last June.
