Waitlisted after being deferred EA… is there any hope at all? What are you guys sending to update your profile?

ND says to send in any new info for waitlist - is there a form? On-line? Email?

Goldendomer11: i was also deferred EA…i looked into past waitlist threads and it doesn’t seem to be as uncommon as i imagined

I applied RD and was waitlisted. I’m pretty disappointed, since thats where my mom went and that’s where I’ve always wanted to go. It’s like home to me. But I’m not surprised, I had low stats, so that’s probably why. I’m definitely going to work hard to get off. I’m not a huge fan of my back up schools and I’m hoping to not have to end up at them.

What are the odds to get taken off of the waitlist? Is it better than some schools since some schools have thousands on the waitlist.

I got nerdy and calculated it. There is anywhere from a 0 to 27.8% chance of getting off. The list has 900 kids and anywhere from 0 to 250 get off!

There is really no way to know your chances at this point. A lot of people may decide to go elsewhere, especially since it seems everyone applies to a lot of schools these days and probably got accepted to at least a few of them. Financial Aid packages are coming out which will influence many decisions. Some just want the process to be over and will go with another school. It will not be until after the May 1 commitment deadline that there is any real chance of judging the number to be taken from the waitlist. If you are waitlisted, you need to decide which school is your best choice after ND, and whether or not you are willing to be in limbo for several more months. Just be sure to stay in touch with your rep, send any new info that reflects favorably on your situation (big jump in GPA, class rank, awards, etc.) Expressed interest matters and, in the end, you need to know that you did everything you could.

Hey!
I was wait listed too, but i’m so excited that I still have some sort of chance to attend my dream school! Do any of you guys know what type of campus housing or class selection that we’ll have if we get taken off of the wait list? Do we get the same as the regularly admitted students or do we have a disadvantage in those areas? Thanks for any help you can give me! Here’s to hoping that they take a ton of us off of the wait list!

The campus housing and course selection is done in mid summer, so the waitlisted/accepted students have no real penalty in not being accepted initially. The housing is all done by random computer selection, so you will get a place in a dorm.

Waitlisted too!! I’m really hoping that people decide to go elsewhere and open up spots for us. Any advice on what we should do to be one of those chosen from the Should we get letters from alum?

Are you guys going to write supplementary letters/essays and send them to your regional counselor?

I would consider send a letter to either the director of admissions or your regional counselor (i) thanking them for the opportunity to continue to be considered for admission, (ii) updating them with respect to accomplishments, activities or other helpful matters (not since your application was sent in and (iii) letting them know you remaing very hopeful that you may be admitted and attending the university this Fall.

Anybody know when we can expect updates?

If they go to the waitlist, they’ll call about a week after the May 1st deadline. Have any of you found out anything about how the class is filling up so far?

i know that there are roughly 1,100 people on the wait list.

Ahh I hope they contact us soon! Wait listed at ND and Emory… currently enrolled at RPI

I know! I get nervous every time the phone rings! :)

Got an email from my ND rep today. They’re “getting close to being able to make decisions about waitlisted applicants.” She also said that admissions wants to have all final decisions done by the end of may even though they’ve accepted people into June. Not a lot of specifics so take what you want from that.

Fish34, any indication of the yield or how many Waitlisters they’d accept?
