Hey, guys! I was on the waitlist last year, and I made it off of the waitlist. If you write to your local admissions rep every two or three weeks or so until ND starts to pull people (around early May), you can set yourself apart from other people on the waitlist.
At the end of senior year, people tend to get lots of honors and awards. (At least, that’s how it was at my high school.) If there is anything at all that you’ve accomplished since January, send that to your local counselor.
Aside from staying in touch with your local counselor, there isn’t much that you can do. Getting off of the waitlist requires a whole lot of luck. Prayer (if you are Catholic) certainly helped me – it felt like I prayed a Rosary every night last spring. But, if you’ve done everything that you could do, you’ll at least have some closure.
If getting into Notre Dame means the world to you, I would look into the Gateway Program, as well. You can get to the Gateway website through Google. The official policy is that ND doesn’t take students who “ask” to be placed in Gateway, but if you send an E-mail to your counselor and “express interest” in Gateway, it certainly couldn’t hurt. (I’m currently in Gateway, and I’m on track to get my transfer offer.)
If you have any questions, need any advice, would like a candle lit for you at the Grotto, or need anything at all, feel free to PM me on here, or E-mail me at wneely@nd.edu. I empathize with you guys so much. Last April, all my friends knew where they were attending college, and I was still holding out for ND. Being waitlisted is incredibly stressful, but if you give it your all, you’ll have no regrets.
@wneely16 thankyouthankyouthankyou so much for your advice! A few hours after I received my decision from ND, I immediately started scrolling through last year’s waitlist thread. I remember reading your posts on there, feeling like I was going through the whole process with everyone who was posting, I was rooting for you, @IvyHopeful98 and @sonic1998 all along!!!
Hey guys I was also waitlisted last year and got in! I agree with everything @wneely16 said above. It is definitely important to stay in touch with your admissions counselor. I would recommend calling them every once in awhile with questions. Everytime you call or email they mark it down in your file so when they go to admit students off the waitlist they will see how dedicated you are.
Write a strong letter of intent and a letter that updates them on anything you have done since applying. Make the letter of intent as personal as possible so they really understand why you specifically want to go to Notre Dame and what you can offer the school.
I know how stressful this time is but it is definitely important to not give up hope but you also need to start geting excited about whatever school you commit to. Wherever you end up you will have an amazing college experience!
@moneylove I can confirm there are no disadvantages to being a waitlisted student. Housing is randome and not decided until later. Despite my dorm being the best on campus there isnt really any bad housing option. And I needed financial aid to attend and they met my need as well as any other student.
I hope this helps! If you have any questions or concerns.you can email me at cballan1@nd.edu.
Good luck with the rest of your senior year!
Good Luck Waitlisters! Write your detailed letter of continued interest! My daughter got wait listed for the Class of 2018 and got in! Her admissions counselor gave her a telephone call to tell her on May 5th. Twenty five kids got in off the wait list that year. She is a junior now at Notre Dame and loves it! She wrote a detailed letter of continued interest and kept in touch with her admissions counselor regularly with updates on academic success, athletic triumphs and her continued desire to be at Notre Dame. She also had two more adults(not ten)send in reference letters. She was afraid she would annoy her counselor but was given advice from another ND advisor that she must make her interest clear because that contact will set her apart from others. It worked! Last year, my daughter gave advice to another wait listed young woman from her former high school to follow her lead and THAT gal got in as well. Whoever is saying that ND hasn’t taken off the wait list the past few years is wrong! That young woman is loving her freshman year at ND as well! Keep the faith if you believe Notre Dame is the home for you and let them see your interest! It can happen!
Any thoughts on when or if ND will make decisions on pulling from their waitlist?
I think someone mentioned last year was May 5; I’m thinking another week.
Hi I too am eager to hear from the waiting list! I really hope it is this week!
last year the first day decisions came out for waitlisters according to the college confidential thread from last year was may 3
It was May 3rd last year. I was at an admitted students presentation 2 weeks ago and ND rep said they were ahead of their projections in terms of deposits and they thought at that point they would not be going to the waitlist this year, They also stated that the trend for them has been 1 year they take off the waitlist and the next year they do not. They did take off the waitlist last year. They stated that was purely the trend for the last few years with no apparent reason.
However, if you look at ND observer, there was an article on May 1st wherein they stated they hoped to go to the waitlist. So good luck, I hope you get in
I called admissions today and they said they “haven’t made up their mind about letting kids off the list yet”
I GOT THE CALL
Congrats!
:-c ^:)^
Congrats!
@JDprospy -Congrats - What area of the country are you from or Int’l?
Wow congrats! I’m assuming you will accept…?
one of my best friends from my school; the one i was gonna room with if neither of us got into ND, got the call today, but no call for me. Perhaps tomorrow, perhaps later this month, perhaps never. sigh
Congratulations, @JDprospy! @OwlEyes17, good luck!!
Do you guys know around what time the calls usually go out?
