Notre Dame Wait List Thread Class of 2017

I am in the exact same position as you Kozemzak. I want it more than anything, and if I get that rejection letter I will be contacting whomever I need to for transfer information ASAP so that I can take the right classes and be admitted to ND as a sophomore. This extended waitlist sounds great to me! I really hope they do that this year as well. If I was at ND, I’d be lighting some candles at the Grotto right now. Praying hard!

I just think it’s safe to wait until an official letter comes out saying that no one will be admitted before we assume that there’s no chance. Even in 2011 when they over enrolled they took 7 students to fill specific needs in the class. Seven is better than nothing! Does anyone know the number of people who accepted their placement on the wait list this year? I know they estimated 900 but I haven’t heard or seen anything about the actual number.

On my way to ND now will light that candle at the Grotto for you!

Say one for my son too!

As long as no one has received an official letter, I am still saying my prayers. Has anyone received anything in the mail?

No word yet in Minnesota.

Got an official letter today by regular mail. They are not planning to accept people from waiting list.

I can confirm as well. Got my letter yesterday by regular mail in Colorado. No plans to accept from waitlist. Oh well, here I come state flagship!

I still haven’t received the letter. I really wish it would get here, just so I could have that little sense of finality.

Is anyone doing the Gateway Program at HCC?

I got the same invitation. The program seems great, and I’m pretty sure that I’ll do it.

What is the gateway program?

Kozemzak: When I got my waitlist letter today, I expected it to just say that Notre Dame wasn’t taking anyone off the waitlist; however, additionally, the envelope had a little brochure and an extended letter that said I had been offered a place in the Holy Cross College- Notre Dame Gateway Program. Apparently it’s the first time that Notre Dame has made a program like this one, and the offer has been extended to 20 people who were not accepted to attend Notre Dame to be able to go to Holy Cross- which is adjacent to Notre Dame- to take 4 honors courses there and a course at Notre Dame each semester. These courses are to serve as the equivalents of a first year of studies at Notre Dame. Also, if one is to make a 3.5 cumulative gpa during his or her freshman year, he or she is guaranteed transfer and priority housing to Notre Dame for the sophomore year. Apparently people are allowed and even encouraged to participate in Notre Dame clubs and activities and things like that, but I still need to get more details from the people who head this program. Notre Dame says in the letter that “we sincerely foresee a place for you here,” which I guess is the reason for this program.

DD got the no waitlist letter today. No Holy Cross invitation. Congrats to you MobtheMan!!!

That sounds like an amazing offer. I would for sure do it if I am invited. Hoping for the best!!!

Thanks! It got me really excited, as it was out-of-the-blue and such an honor. I wish that more than 20 people were offered because 20 is such a small number compared to the so many who were waitlisted.

Ya it sounds fantastic! I honestly am so excited just to hear that notre dame wanted to take wait listed students and is making up for it through this program. Even if I’m not accepted it’s great!

I heard back last week from ND off the waitlist, and I also got into the HCC waitlist program. After talking with the admissions counselors over at Notre Dame, I decided it really is a great option, and I decided to commit. According to the university, the 20 kids in the program are going to be really close, so if anyone is still trying to decide/decided already, I’d love to get to know ya!

Hey, lbert95. I’m pretty certain that I’m going to commit right after I cancel my enrollment for the school where I put down the deposit. The program seems great, and I’m glad that they thought of it. Do you have any specifics about it that were not given in the letter or on the brochure? I’d be glad to get to know you too.

Mobtheman & lbert95! I think I’m going to do it… I’m committed to Saint Mary’s right now and I plan to walk on the rowing team at ND regardless of where I end up, but as stupid as it sounds I’m a little worried about the social aspect of being at HCC. Needless to say I’m a little torn. It’s an awesome opportunity but I don’t know how I feel about transferring into Notre Dame. It’s been my absolute number one and I’m bummed that I’m “settling” now, but I feel like I could at least enjoy Saint Mary’s if I went there. So now that I’ve spilled my whole life story… Haha email me if you’re doing Gateway! As you can probably tell I’m a little stressed about the decision & I feel like getting to know some people would make me feel a little better! cmdoloughlin@**********
