I’m an Arabic summer alum and I applied for the Arabic year program this year (for a gap year)! It’s kind of a back-up plan for me, and idk if I’ll go (depending on what college I end up at) but the summer program was a life changing experience and best of luck to you all!!

I applied to 1) Korea summer 2) China summer 3) any

ah! notifications should be coming out soon! so nervous

I know! And now starts the obsessive checking of e-mail everyday until I know if I go on to be semi-finalist or just get rejected… D: hmm I applied (for any one who is curious) 1) Mandarin 2) Korean 3) Arabic (All Year)

Hi, all. Are semifinalists notified via email?

Yupp!! (although, this is the first year I applied) Every notification is done through e-mail, including finalist notification. If you do get to the finalist stage they mail you information and a textbook (some programs do, i believe)…Yeah, I know a lot of past applicants and alumni, i’m in one of many NSLI-Y groups

I’m really excited and hope to be able to get the chance to be interviewed at least!

I went to South Korea on the CIEE trip this past summer, and I absolutely loved everything about Korea. However, 2 weeks went by really fast :(

I’m soooooo scared

do any of you guys know when (exactly “when,” if possible) they send out the emails?

I’m in the Facebook group, and 2 or 3 people have gotten emails :O

several people, from NJ or VA only, have gotten notifications. ahh!! (please let ny be next…)

I’m in a NSLI-Y group and at least 5 people have gotten a notification!

There are also NY and MA people who got their notifications

Hi, I’m in Northern Virginia. Both my friend and I got notification that we are semifinalists. She was notified before her parents even summited the Parent recommendation. I think they are emailing notifications to the people who will be interviewed first. I read on NSLI-Y Facebook, DC, NJ, and NYC start interviews December 17th.

Wait: The interview thing was from a previous year.

Congratulations to everyone who got notified today! But if you didn’t get notified today, don’t worry! Semifinalist emails will being going out for at least another two weeks. Good luck everyone! :)

Got in!!! anyone else have Russia as #1? Also the rate of acceptance?

Ahh! Now I’m scared! D:
I live in New Mexico so, I don’t know how long it will take for an email (accepted or rejected).
Fingers crossed to everyone who doesn’t know yet and congrats to those who are semifinalists! ^^

i live in GA dos that mean i will find out soon (unless i get rejected)?

I was just scrolling through the nsli-y twitter and it seems that they tweeted that

“Sorry for the confusion. We made a mistake this afternoon and some messages were sent prematurely. Is everything clear now?”

^ is word for word sorta annoyed now the rest of us wont find out for probably another week or two maybe :(

They said that because at around 2pm ET they sent out two semifinalist acceptance emails, but they didn’t have reference codes or their names. That is what they were referring to. The ones sent at 5pm ET were meant to be sent and I’m guessing they’ll send more out at least one more day this week. :)

I think gamerqueen is right. I got my email at 5:45 yesterday and it included my reference code.

What programs are people applying to?

I’m applying to:
1.Arabic 2.Turkish 3.Persian (Tajik)

It looks like DC interviews start next weekend. Any advice?

Good luck to everyone still waiting for a semifinalist notice. I hope you guys hear soon.

PS: Sorry for the double post. I seem to have lost my edit button.
