NSLI-Y 2014-2015 (2012-2013 are welcome to put their input )

So how are semifinalists being notified?

Semifinalists are notified through email.

Anyone from Ga heard anything?

Sally22: nope havent heard anything ;(

anyone know what states have heard?

Ny, nj, va, md

I’m assuming California will be last?

Well that’s weird.
Haven’t heard anything as of yet and I’m from NY.

From what I’ve read on NSLI-Y’s Facebook, when searching their posts from past years, NYC hears before the rest of NY.

So you mean… Like those in Manhatten hear first? I’m pretty close to the city so, unless they’re doing it based on boroughs… I’m still a lost child waiting lol

I think those who interview first are notified first. You might just be interviewing later.

Good Luck. I hope you get your notification letter soon.

We live in KY and my daughter hasn’t received an email yet…hoping she would hear soon. Anyone apply well before the deadline? She applied a few weeks before.

we live in Ohio and haven’t heard either , not sure if no news is good or bad, sounds like they might still be sending out notifications. Good Luck!

Anyone from MA heard back yet? They said that interviews will go into February, does anyone know if that means we might not hear back for a couple of months? Also, does anyone know if they send out the ones saying you do not have an interview in December as well? Very nervous/excited, good luck everyone!

you will hear one way or the other by the end of December.

Hi, I’d just like to put in that NSLI-Y has confirmed that all semi-finalist notifications will be received by the end of December. Also, a member of an applicant group on Facebook has received confirmation from staff at NSLI-Y that notifications are done by state, not time of submission. As far as we’ve gathered, they’ve only announced semi-finalists for New York, New Jersey, Maryland, and Virginia, which were all sent out last Tuesday.

Thanks so much for the info. Does anyone know how exactly they choose people to be semi-finalists? Do you think it’s pretty much all the essay’s? I’m not really sure what else they would look at

They do consider your stats, but it’s mostly the essays at this point in the process.

Ignore if you don’t want to hear me rant
I’m sooooooooooo screwed. My teacher said she turned in the rec letter a long time ago, but i just checked and it says not submitted for some reason. I should have double checked SMH. I called and they said they’ll still consider my app, but I’m feeling disheartened? What do you guys think?

@zanelias I am a semifinalist and it turns out my teacher rec didn’t go through either, so don’t lose hope! you never know, right?

Yeah, it’ fine. They don’t really consider teacher/parent statement until it’s time for choosing finalists.
