Nursing School for Adult Student in East-Central Illinois

I am looking at BSN programs in the east-central Illinois area, suitable for an adult wishing to become a nurse. She has an associate's degree that would satisfy most of the general-ed requirements for nursing, so she would be looking to go full-time for about two years to complete the BSN.

I see several schools in that area that might fit the bill:

University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign)
Eastern Illinois University (Charleston)
Indiana State University (Terre Haute)
Lakeview College of Nursing (Danville)

Does anyone have any knowledge of these or other, nearby nursing programs? Any idea which might be best-suited to an adult pursuing a BSN full-time? Any other suggestions or observations at all?

Thanks for your help.

UIUC does not offer nursing. UIC has a branch campus in Urbana for Nursing and Medicine. You’ll have to apply through UIC and request Urbana campus. UIC nursing is very competitive.

I read about UIUC’s online BSN completion program for RNs and mistakenly assumed that they had a full-fledged nursing program. I also knew nothing about the UIC program in Urbana. Thanks for the info!

I grew up right in that area. I live the program at Indiana State University. The school is really only known for a few programs, but they put a lot of money into the nursing departments, and have MSN and physician asst programs as well. Terre Haute is not what I call a beautiful town, but it has most things people need in a city (including sushi and thai food).

My SIL went through a terrible divorce, and was a jobless, broke single mom. She had an associates degree already, so went back a year or two, and got her nursing license at the local public college. And all I can say is that it was THE BEST thing she never did. She was able to move back to her hometown (where the rest of her family lives), got a job right awa, was able to support her kids and restart her life. Now she’s going to nightschool while working full time to earn some new credentials to move up the career ladder. She is VERY happy.

I just wanted to share that as it seems like a really terrific path for adults wanting a new career.

Thanks for the encouragement and additional info!
