I don’t think that works abudhab mama

those who got accepted should post their SATs, ACTs, grades, etc. It would be helpful to get an idea of what they are accepting.

Ok. Start from me:
UW GPA: 3.83
SAT 2260 (CR+M 1530)
SAT 2 Math 800 Phy 760 Chem 760
AP 6 5s and 3 4s
BTW, I am an int’l student

SAT: 2200
GPA: 3.92/4.76
SAT II: Math 800, Chem 740
(IB; only 3 AP’s, but fives)

HOWEVER, these numbers are entirely irrelevant. More or less, the numbers for admission here are going to be the same as any competitive top 20 school. If you want to actually be considered, your essay and (to be blunt) personality will hold MUCH more weight. Focus on standing out in a holistic sense, not so much on numbers.

Why is nobody talking about how NYU can brand its name as a university with non-discrimination clauses based on race, gender, and orientation , can brand a campus in a nation that supports censorship and unequal rights? THe policies that will be in force or at best vague…

nyuadprof- when can we see the SAT/ACT, subject test scores profile of the admitted or confirmed students? Can u give us an idea what it is approx like?

thanx

in response to some here who were worried about NYUAD being a burden on NYU…

NYUAD is a cash cow for NYU. Maybe now NYU can start offering more scholarships for NYU students with NYUAD funding it indirectly. For every student admitted full boat, NYU will be pocketing the bulk of the $60K - total fees (given by the Abu Dhabi Govt.) to fund students in NYU. its a brilliant move by NYU and i am sure many Univs are going green - not environmentally, but with envy !

everyone benefits in the end -
Abu Dhabi gets a world class Univ !
NYU get money
NYU in NYC can offer more scholarships
the kids in NYU AD get free education !!

in 10 -20 years NYU AD could be a major research Univ in the region!

Slavery was a great money maker for the South - but it didn’t stop the North from going to war over principles. It seems if NYU makes its fortune by sacrificing individuals and principles like freedom of expression and diversity, there would be a greater price paid

One more thing - the Persian gulf region was the domain of the Brits for a long time. The people here have a thing for the Brits. Mot of the city’s top consultants are Brits. Therefore its a big surprise that the Abu Dhabi govt opted for an American univ rather than some top Brit Univ. All the money could have gone to some Brit Univ. But now its coming to NYU!

nrousep, that is excellent oversight of the purpose of NYU Abu Dhabi. It makes a lot of sense now - NYU abu dhabi really is a cash cow rofl

rainbowboy… good point .

NYU could have stayed away based on that - but it did not. instead NYU has even set an example in UAE by insisting that workers of even the contractors working on its campus are being paid the stipulated minimum and are protected unlike many of the well known global companies that shamelessly exploit the situation to get things done for less at the expense of hapless migrant workers. Rather than shun the region NYU has stepped in & set an example. I am sure it will soon bring about changes in what is lacking in Abu Dhabi with regards to such practices, freedom of expression, etc. Even Abu Dhabi probably wants that too as i am sure it was aware what it meant from that pov to have NYU set up campus in town as colleges are very often the incubator that spawn political changes .

except the UAE jails queer people and uses torture on them - and that is still happening - so, maybe NYU should have waited until those laws changed - from the best that I can tell - gays are encouraged to apply (sort of) - but if they do anything as upsetting as holding hands off the campus - the government will insist that NYU send them home - so that doesn’t sound so much like NYU cares

I lived in Abu Dhabi for 3 years. I can tell you this: No one will send u home for holding another students hand (male or female) ! You could end up being very surprised with the real attitude these regions have towards the gay issue !

Lets give NYU some serious encouragement as it is aware of all these aspects. It is also aware that two other US Univs have packed their bags & left for good from the UAE. NYU is doing a great balancing act and i think their strategies are well founded.

The only worry is if not too many bright students join up despite the smart move in reserving 100 odd seats for students from the US. If the over all standard of the students are low, then it could be a disaster.

well - I was looking at this website:[Gay UAE, Gay Dubai - Gay Middle East](http://www.gaymiddleeast.com/country/uaemirates.htm)

the reports don’t sound so gay friendly to me - it doesn’t sound that NYU minds bringing gay students and allies into such a climate.

“The gay issue”?

nrousep: I’ve only seen preliminary numbers from the admissions department but nothing official or final yet. As soon as they are made public, I’ll post them, but from what I’ve seen so far the numbers (average SAT / ACT, GPA, etc.) are comparable to that of Harvard, Swarthmore, etc. etc.

nyuadprof - is it true that if government officials find out that any NYU abu dhabi students are gay, those students will, at the very least, be forced to leave the country?

Will there be any LBGTQ faculty members allowed in Abu Dhabi? it sounds like this is a dream for NYU members who wish to live in a world where LGBTQ people can be eradicated.

rainbowboywonder: In response your first question (post #97) - no, from what I’ve heard the government will not be allowed to force any gay NYUAD students to leave the country. In response to your second question (post #98) - yes, there will be LBGTQ faculty in Abu Dhabi.

Rainbow… This thread is FOR ACCEPTED STUDENTS to post their stats for the future applicants to know what kind of students NYUAD accepts. I see you have taken enough time to create a thread about NYUAD and gay issues (which is surprinsing since you say you have no interest in NYUAD?), so please, if you have any problem, discuss it there, or contact NYU and tell them about your problem (note, that would be a wise thing to do, much more effective than what you’re doing here).
… And NYU is perhaps the most accepting school in the nation; and NYUAD doesn’t have anything against gay students. As nyuadprof said, there will be LGBTQ faculty and students in NYUAD, and they will be SAFE!
