NYU Admission Letter and Scholarship Award Letter Received 3//8/10

dolewhip,
where do you live?

are the people getting admitted right now only for scholarships?

So normal/regular applicants who arent getting scholarships will be notified later?

ylmc123 - about 45 minutes north of manhattan

dolewhip-im so worried that i didnt get the scholarship now because i live on long island and i dont think the package wouldve taken that long!!! shoooooot

faaaaaaaaaaack DoleWhip, congrats!!! that’s amazing! best of luck to those who haven’t heard yet!

re: evolving – yes. i was accepted to stanford under their restrictive early action program  i’m most likely headed there, but we’ll see…i’m still in shock i even got in to tisch…woooooooooow

I’m glad OP posted so we wouldn’t all be in the dark, just waiting. Last two years they seemed to start around now, so it’s good to know they’re on the way.

kellannah…Tisch for your D? Which department? How wonderful!

FashionCapital-are you a transfer student or freshman? I applied to the film program at Tisch as a transfer student, and haven’t get anything back yet…just worried><

I got mine today…full ride DEAN’s scholar program…and pres honors program…i am kind of excited about this…i didnt know they offered full rides…its crazy because the weekend i go to new york, 2 weeks later i am going to boston for MIT…wow this is crazy!! congrats everyone!!

claygog do you mind posting your stats please  ?

and congrats!!!

Anyone from OUTSIDE the NYC area getting Dean/Pres yet? Wonder if they might be coming out based on the admissions officer who handles a particular area. I was HOPING my d’s 34 ACT would get her in (it’s the ONLY way we’ll be able to afford it)… but no word yet here in the Midwest. I just saw the 2007 thread dredged up (about DEAN)…and someone on there didn’t get their Pres or Dean until late April!!! Their Mom assumed they might have been waitlisted for it. (?)

I also wonder the financial situation of the Dean/Pres recipients here. Anyone NOT very low income?

…and…CONGRATS!!!

By the way…I keep hearing “full ride” thrown around - these aren’t full rides - someone feel free to correct me. They’re anywhere from $25,000 up to full TUITION…neither one of which is even CLOSE to a “full ride” (which would include EVERYTHING including NYU’s CRAZY high priced housing, board, etc etc). Make no mistake - I’d be HAPPY to accept it. But housing alone is about $13,000 year, and NOT included in these scholarships, correct?

@R124687
You’d be surprised though. I discovered that R&B is more expensive at Fordham for freshman than NYU.

where do you live, claygog?

CANNOT BELIEVE IT!!! I got one of the MLK Scholarships too! Had it shipped to my house Monday (today is Wednesday :P), and was shocked to find out I got any money at all. Like I said in another thread I’m also in the running for a NY times Scholarship, and already knew I got into Tisch because of this. Ahhhh I am so shocked. My scores are good but not as perfect as the latters stats, so I’m guessing I got it based on my resume :).

“full ride” refers to when they cover tuition. Since room/board and meal plans and such are optional, it’s not included (but you can work for Housing or become an RA for free room/board after freshmen year. it’s very selective, but so are the “full ride” scholarships). Very few people at NYU get full rides.

Congrats to all who were accepted, especially those with scholarships! i’m curious, has anyone been accepted into the Women in Science scholarship program?

don’t forget to apply for outside scholarships too!

Erm, I’m just wondering for all that haven’t, could you please state where you live and anyone else who posts do the same? Baah! College letters in any form get me so anxious.

Alix:

“Full Ride” is not the term for full tuition. They are very different things. Tuition is certainly a huge chunk of your school costs…but FAR from all of it. Just FYI. MANY schools have “full rides”, which include everything…full “Cost of Attendance”…and sometimes more. My own D is nearly at a “full ride” at her state Uni. She has MUCH more than tuition right now. Some of the full rides at that school include tuition, room, board, international study, travel costs, laptops, books, fees, more. Many schools (both public and private) have scholarships like this, but not NYU.

I’m only clearing this up because kids throw these terms around and it’s then a surprise when people think NYU offers them, think they can go, then have a sad surprise when Mom/Dad says “But, honey…we’d still have to pay $17,000 plus travel…I can’t afford that”.

Jr: Congrats!! You seem surprised, but the MLK, though it does require “good grades” also requires service to community. You must have done a lot for your school, community, etc. You did a great job. Be proud of your efforts!

"THE MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. SCHOLARS PROGRAM is more than an academic scholarship and requires more of students than high grades. The Program brings together students from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds who have demonstrated through outstanding academic achievement, leadership and community service the many different ways they live out the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The understanding of the legacy that informs the scholars program include the themes of “the beloved community” and social justice – Dr. King’s commitment to the proposition that inclusive and just communities are communities where individuals can grow and thrive. "

re: Dreamaker – I’m a freshman applicant. I hope everything works out for you! :)

I’m in the midwest, no scholarship information or even acceptance yet.

I can’t afford to go to NYU without a scholarship, although my stats are pretty high… 4.7, 34ACT (35 super), good EC’s.

Congrats and good luck everyone.

My best friend and I got in on Monday to the Liberal Studies Program, same day I got a likely to Duke. We’re in Texas
