Thanks for the help! Also, has anyone heard from NYU already?

your def in , shh

...bump....

Paul,

If you are applying RD, I don't think adding a note showing your committment to NYU will make any difference since its not going to bind you.

However, doing something to show your enthusiasim for NYU might help....perhaps visitng the school, getting a recc. from an alum., or somehow tying your essay to the subject.

Yes, your school profile certainly makes a difference. NYU will note the fact that you went to a competitive private school, and this will be considered when judging you.

Good luck.

JasonX,

Your SATs are great, but the grades might hurt you. Do you go to a prestigious private school or competitive public school...if so, then your grades are a little stronger, though stil not top notch for NYU.

I think you did make a good move applying ED though. All in all, I think you have a very solid chance.

Good luck.

jwblue,
thanks again for your continuing advice. You mentioned maybe a rec froman alum would help me. My cousin (more like a brother though) graduated from the CAS in 2002 and is now in Med school. would a rec from him look good or just family trying to help out. Also, i was planning on having an additional rec already on top of the regular two from teachers. Is that getting too many? Might **** them off...what do you think?

Paul,

Im not sure how much your cousin's recc. would make a difference, his influence always depends on how much money he contributes to the school and how involved he is in alumni activities. I don't think it would hurt, just not sure if it would be that influential.

If your regular 2 reccs. are already strong, I don't think there is a need to get another one....unless its something really essential from someone who knows you (eg a recc. from a coach in a sport you plan to play at NYU). If thats not the case, I'd probably stick with what you already have...you don't want to make it look like you're padding the app.

Good luck.

Paul,

Here is a post from the NYU bulletin board regarding additional info. I would still send it in if you think it can make a difference.

thanks a lot JWblue your help is always appreciated greatly

No prob. Best of luck.

Anyone care to evaluate me? For Stern, regular decision.

GPA: 3.825
Rank: 28 of 434
SAT I: 710M 660V
SAT II: 620W, 680IC, 660IIC, 630USH
EC: A bit of everything, especially strong in music, two instruments
Hard classes, eight AP courses by the time I graduate, 4's on Language and History AP tests
I live in Indiana, if that helps.

I just they will overlook my low SAT scores.

the worst stats for Stern I've ever seen.

Apply to the School of Social Work. even there, you have only 65% chances

So, what? Retake SAT again in January? I thought I had at least a 25% chance at Stern.

dude i was only joking.
you do have a solid shot however not that good though.
about 40% i would say
why? because you didn't apply early

you are competitive...u definitely have at least a 25% chance

I'm really kicking myself for not applying early, I applied to Wharton early, and look where it got me (deferred)

damn UPenn was relaly really really reallyreallyreallyr aerreallyy realyl really really realylyl realyly realy realy realy realya reallyy realy rear lye realyr elraylre rearealy realy realy really really reasrlyls realy realy really a reach.

why didn't you apply to Stern ED?
go kill yourself idiot
or give me your stats....!!! lol

So, I hear NYU was big on GPA/SATs? Is this true? Will they actually read my essays and concider my recomendations, ECs and other? If they don't, I'm really screwed.
