I am a junior and would apply to CAS as a Journalism major, Early Decision I.

Weighted (school doesn't do UW) GPA: 3.4 (but will rise to a 3.5/3.6 by end of Junior year)
I go to a very, very good public school.
Caucasian, don't need financial aid, live in NJ
SAT: 1780 = 590 (Reading) 570 (Math) 620 (Writing) First time taking them, trying to raise them.
SAT II: US History (630)

AP Classes: US History (3), European History, Government (for senior year), Language and Composition, Literature (for senior year,) Art History

Honors Classes: French 3,4,5 (I entered in at a high level Fresh. year,) English I, English II

I am the Editor-in-Chief of my school paper, I have been writing for all four years. I will be Editor-in-Chief for two years.
I have worked backstage on every school theater production (six so far) and am the lead student in charge of costumes junior + will be senior year.
I do lemonade stands for Alex's Lemonade Stand (my brother was a cancer survivor so the service actually means something me)
I have taken three summers of various art classes at Moore College of Art and am doing the pre-college program at RISD for Graphic Design.
I also have a fairly successful fashion/art/music blog.

Your ECs are fine. Honestly, it’s just your GPA and SAT scores that are bringing you down. Try to get that SAT score to 2000+, and bring up your GPA significantly. I don’t know your school’s grading system, but a 3.5 weighted doesn’t sound too good, so really try to get it up.

Edit: ■■■■■ detected, you couldn’t have been writing for four years if you’re only a junior.

SAT is very low for NYU. As stated 2000+ is the norm for NYU. Also as stated above, a 3.4/3.5 weighted GPA is not very good. (I’m assuming this correlates to about 3.3 or lower) which is also below the norm for NYU. CAS, Stern and Tisch stand as the most difficult schools in NYU to get into. So you will need to raise your SAT scores significantly to counteract your low gpa. I would say a minimum 2100 should be required for you to be accepted.

I agree with paigeohno. You do seem like a likely choice for LSP because of your not so high SAT scores. GPA and EC’s aren’t as bad as you think.

Yes I can totally afford it.
I know people say that LSP is like paying for community college but for what I want to do in life (uh, work at a New York magazine!) internships and living in New York city are very important. And it’s not just the city, I really really REALLY love the school.

When you say you can afford it, you mean your parents and/or you can pay the $60,000/yr without loans? Be careful when considering NYU. You may think you can take out loans and/or your parents can take out loans to cover the cost. However, both you and your parents have a limit as to how much you can borrow. Also, graduating with over $60,000 (or more) worth of debt, if you’re considering taking out loans to cover the cost, is really not a very good option. That’s a great deal of debt. NYU is an expensive proposition, so consider very carefully.

Thank you very much for warning me (because I do know a lot of students who want to go to NYU but literally can not pay for it in the long run) but my family is more than financially set. Although NYU is the most expensive school I am looking at I will have no problems covering the cost. No loans whatsoever. I won’t even need to have a job to cover payments.

Also: there are definitely Cs on my transcript. 2 C’s or C+ (can’t remember) my Freshman year, and then 3 C+ my sophomore year, and I will probably have 2 C+'s this year. My grades in AP courses are all B+ (except an A+ for Art History).

Be honest, if there are Cs (but they’re consistent in subjects that I am not good at, i.e. Honors French and Math) is there any chance for LSP at all then?

I got accepted this year into CAS with a 3.32 UW GPA and a 3.7 Weighted GPA from a highly ranked public school. I had 1 C Freshman year, 2 Cs sophomore, and 1 C junior year. I did have a very rigorous schedule, and showed improvement as I had over a 4.0 both semesters junior. My SAT was 1420/1600.
