********NYU ED Class of 2020 Discussion**********

Hi. I saw that someone posted about having the admissions email able to give phone notifications. I must have missed that…is it still something I can do and if so, how?

@Iywang…to what does your 30-50% acceptance rate for Steinhardt or CAS refer? Do you mean the percent they accept from the ED1 pool or the percentage of ED students that make up the freshman class? That 50% is the highest I’ve seen. I’ve read 32% acceptance overall, 1/3 of freshman class from ED pool, and only about a 20% acceptance rate for ED CAS applicants. Can you elaborate?

@horselover7 someone else already called me out on that stat - I’m sorry, I just remember seeing numbers around that range. I was definitely wrong with CAS - again, apologies (I’ve seen numbers ranging from 20% to 28% after rechecking).

So far I have only seen NYU Stern report their specific undergraduate statistics. Actual admissions numbers vary on the class demographic and the size of the class and can vary between years. Because NYU doesn’t release official numbers, making specific predictions can be rather futile. I, for one, am done with guesswork. The only thing I have read consistently is that “Abu Dhabi, Stern and Tisch would have the lowest, CAS and Gallatin would be next, not sure what comes after those and in what order but: Steinhardt, College of Nursing, Courant, Silver School, SCPS would all factor into the overall undergraduate acceptance rate.” (CC user NYU2013)

The context of my previous comment was in response to someone applying to Steinhardt. Because I was under the impression that Steinhardt had a more liberal (relatively), approach to admission (and it does), I was simply trying to reassure the OP of her chances of admission. In which case she had been erringly comparing her personal Steinhardt applicant stats with Stern applicant stats.

Sorry for adding to your confusion. If anything, simply disregard my earlier comment.

This thread sheds some light on the nature of our confusion: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/new-york-university/1204646-how-competitive-is-it-to-get-into-nyu-cas-p1.html

@clueroflooks well I have, they emailed me and offer an interview. Though I have absolutely no idea what they would ask lol

I’m not even sure if it’s a good thing or a bad thing to be invited to an interview. But I’ll guess it will be a relaxed, casual interview rather than a serious one, so definitely looking forward to it.

could someone realistically chance me? Iv spent all day obsessing over dorms and majors and im pretty sure im just spiraling into a pit of madness.
SAT scores aren’t that strong (1940)
Extra curriculars include
volunteering at the SOS orphanage in my city for a month as well as at a hospital (also for a month)
On the o levels and a levels high achievers list
Honorary Mention at 2 MUN’s
Outstanding diplomat at 1 MUN
Law Moot (Best defendant and best team)
2nd speaker on school debating team for 2 years
in the student council of my school
TA for global perspectives and research
Committee Chair for Crisis at GramMun 2015

Strong recommendations from A level professors and I liked my essay but I cant really judge.
no gpa because Iv not done High school but 5A+'s 2A’s and 2 Cs in O levels (C’s were in math and the language spoken in my home country which i doubt will matter to NYU) and expected grades in A levels of all A’s.
Iv applied to CAS with Political Science as my major of choice.
Thanks to anyone who replies

no worries. thanks for the reply.

Hi guys! I don’t want to repost all of the threads from previous years, but I’m sure you all have heard about the FA glitch. I promised I wouldn’t fall prey to it and look at mine but I just did and have no idea what the original looked like. If you go into Albert Login and then into Financial Aid, can you guys post what it says under each of the following:
FINANCIAL AID SUMMARY
(mine says)

Select Aid Year to View

Award access not available. (no year listed on mine…apparently that is one of the changes…)

ACCEPT/DECLINE FINANCIAL AID
(mine says…)

Below is a list of your current To Do items. Items in a Requested status need to be submitted to the Office of Financial Aid in a timely manner. Items in a Received status have been received by the Office of Financial Aid and are pending review.

What do your FA categories say???

I think the FA theory was never proven but it is interesting for sure.

Thanks!

Oh…and one other thing. Last year they were talking about a thing on the Home Page called Global Smart. I don’t believe they have that now…but if you go into the nyu.edu site, and click on GlobalChk Plus/Cobalt Login, do you get an application form with your email in it…with your usernname followed by nyu@edu? Just wondering…thanks to those who respond.

are interviews just for international students or for international programs? i was told they don’t do interviews.

@ferrarivettel are you in the usa? are you applying to an international program (not nyc)?

@horselover7: same thing here

@rochester123…so yours looks like mine? did you ever look at it before?

@rochester123 @horselover7 I have the same things on my Albert log-in. I also have my e-mail that shows when clicking on the Global Smart account.

I looked at the finical aid info when I first got my log-in and it all looks identical to as it looks now. I do think it is still pretty early to be seeing any changes (even if this will later be an indication of acceptance). I assume that they are still processing and doing initial readings of applications now and will probably start internally assigning admission decisions starting next week… at the earliest (although there are the holidays off). I think it is best to start worrying about this closer to December 1st.

@horselover7 I applied to both the NYC Campus and the Shanghai Campus.

@deller123 The FA Change/Glitch/Hint, if it’s even true, didn’t happen to previous year’s applicants until the final days before the decisions release.

In December 2013 the NYU’s Dean of Admission Shawn Abbott blogged about how the FA change isn’t an indication of admission. So even if he was just doing politics, NYU knew about the glitch. Yet in that year and the year after that (last year), I think most people who had the FA Change was accepted, at least here on CC. So I do wonder if the glitch is still there last year. Well it’s going to be chaotic in that last few days anyway lol.

Hey everyone!! I’m so happy someone made this discussion! I’m applying ED1 CAS and I just had an interview with NYU Shanghai! I’m really hoping I’ll get in (I have great ECs and a 3.96 GPA) but my test scores are pretty low :frowning:

im kind of regretting that i didnt put shanghai in as one of my preferences :frowning: @lauraochoarincon what major did you choose?

@lauraochoarincon …congrats on the interview!! how is it that you had an interview with NYU Shanghai if you applied CAS? Was Shanghai your alternate or CAS with Shanghai campus? Obviously none of us really knows what goes on behind the scenes, but we’ve all seen stats that even lower test scores with a good GPA gets in and sometimes great scores and great GPAs don’t…You had an interview!!..that’s gotta be a good sign!! Why would they interview you if they weren’t truly considering you?? Take it as a positive

hey guys…and @horselover7, what does it show when you click in Albert for your “My Events Status?” I heard that was another ‘glitch change’ to watch…who knows? It’s likely just one more anxiety provoking rumor!

@horselover7 …mine says the same, but i kinda think the financial aid part for to do once just said no to do items without the paragraph. not sure what it means. prob nothing. who here is applying cas? did any of you pick a specific major? any band geeks here? also, where are you all located? i’m new pennsylvania

@ferrarivettel @deller123 @horselover7…reading through last year’s cc and year before…fa changes happened pretty much from early nov to mostly right before dec 15th. and the wait is killing me!!! anyone know if EDI truly has fewer apps than EDII? Anyone see stats anywhere? someone posted that there are fewer bcs it’s harder to get your app in early…not sure if that’s true, but it would be nice!
