NYU ED II 2018 Discussion

A question for the group, please: on my Albert “application status” the “notification plan” had until today always read “early decision II”, which is what I applied for. This morning, though, the notification plan entry is changed to “regular decision.” Has this change occurred for anyone else? Thanks!

This happened to me during ED I. They changed my notification plan to ED II. It meant I was deferred.

Thanks very much, rowand, for the quick response. It’s strange, because the NYU website clearly says that deferrals are not an option for ED applicants: “We believe that part of our commitment to Early Decision applicants is to provide an “early” decision, and as a result, we either admit or deny Early Decision candidates. Please note that Early Decision students who are denied admission may not re-apply as Regular Decision applicants.”

@WaitingWaiting2 Are you a Tisch applicant? I think Tisch applicants who applied early can be deferred to the RD pool, I’m not sure about the other schools.

Thanks for your responses and pre congrats everyone. Still won’t know for sure until next week. I’m still hoping it’s a good sign. Good luck to all of us.

Thanks, outonalimb, for your response. No, I am not a Tisch applicant and had thought, based on the NYU admissions sites and on other online info, that the Early Decision judgment of NYU would be a final yes or no. So I am confused about what it means to be deferred from ED II into the Regular Decision applicant pool. Thanks to all for your insights on this.

I called and asked about this because I was also confused about the website saying they do not defer. That’s changed and we do, is what I was told. There were about 100 applicants who were deferred from ED I. I guess they can also defer again to RD. I don’t know why they wouldn’t change the website. Then again, I don;t know why they don’t just review ED II and RD students all together and make their decision. Or maybe they do, I mean, really do we think they don’t “peak” at the RD applicants since they are all due at the same time? That way, they can bind you to your ED II commitment in return for which we get…???

@rowand When you were deferred from ED1, did you see Albert change “Early Decision I” to “Early Decision II” before you got your letter?
Yeah i agree it’s really confusing they all of a sudden start deferring a few people when clearly their website ‘ED philosophy’ said they wouldn’t.

@outonalimb Yes, I did which is what caused me to call.

Ugh it’s so bittersweet for me personally. My fa did change so I got excited but my application changed to lsp from cas so I don’t know what to do. For them to change my major I know I got into lsp but I don’t know if I necessarily want to go into that program. Would I graduate in the same amount of years as I would in cas?

Yes. Same amount of years

The more and more I read about it the more I’m actually liking lsp. The only reason people don’t want to go that I have discovered is because of the negative connotation that comes along with it. Either way if I get in or not I’m really happy for myself and everyone should be whether they get rejected or not. If you did enough hard work in high school to think you had a chance of getting into NYU you definitely succeeded.

@ana729 I’m not exactly sure how lap works but I believe that basically you attend that program for 2 years and then you automatically transfer into cas if I’m not mistaken

Yea I heard that as long as I get a 2.0 or 3.0 I will automatically be admitted. If i do actually get in on Friday I will talk to my guidance counselor to see if she knows anything about lsp and if it’s worth it. I know if I was going to major in something math or science related I would not do it but since I know I will do something in the humanities it shouldn’t be too bad for 2 years. That’s if the anticipation of finding out won’t kill me first.

Do people know if they are accepted or not?

Hi I also applied to NYU ED 2. Recently I heard that if your financial aid information goes from “Award Access Not Available” to three columns that say: 2015 l New York University l Award Access Not Available (regardless if you applied for financial aid), it means you got accepted?

I have no idea and I don’t want to start rumors though. Someone from my English class told me this yesterday and told me to come here

@HaroldSawyerThat’s been the general consensus here but it’s not guaranteed. There’s a good chance you got accepted but some people also get rejected with the change

@HaroldSawyer ^ What NYUHopeful said. Even though it’s not 100% guaranteed, and the admissions office specifically claimed this theory to be false, we still see the correlation and it’s a strong sign you are prob accepted.

My application status changed from CAS to LSP.
I guess I will not be going to NYU.

I’m an international but I got the FA change.
