*NYU Fall 2018 Transfer Thread*

I wonder if there’s some type of order that they’re going through applications like is it in the order that they receive apps? Also for those of you applying for CAS Econ are you applying to enter in as a soph or junior? And if you feel like writing it all out what are your stats lol

Is anyone else still waiting for Tandon decisions?

@jstax89 me & people I know with perfect stats got rejected from CAS Econ so definitely

Is anyone still waiting to hear back about CAS journalism?

is anyone still waiting for CAS Poli sci?

Hey guys,

I know this is a personal question, but I want to just want to get a general idea. Do you guys think NYU CAS Econ is worth going in debt for? If so, how much do you think is a reasonable amount of debt per year? Does CAS Econ kids get good recruiting offers given that Stern kids are, presumably, of higher demand than CAS Econ. I applied to other schools for transfer as well, but NYU is the only decision that I have received and I need to make a decision before may 7th (unfortunately most of my decisions come out after the 7th).

@jrtransfer18 i am

@ObLiViOuSx99 It depends on a few factors. What other college have you applied to? Do you know the mean salary of those schools? Basically, if NYU enables you to make $5,000 more a year, then it might be worth it to take on extra debt. But if the extra debt is like $50,000 then it’s not worth it. In any case, more information would be helpful.

@ObLiViOuSx99
Hey, I think nyu econ majors get good recruiting offers if they want to. The difference between econ students and stern’s is that stern students are more interested in working with finance and consulting, as a consequence they have more offers. It is only a matter of what econ students are focusing. Most of them wants to work at the public sector or follow an academic career.

Additionally, I am curious. Were you accepted at cas econ? If so, what’s your stats?

For NYU, I would have to pay approx 40k/year. Other schools I applied to were: a few ivies, vandy, Northeastern, Tulane, and a few other top 40s. However, I’m not entirely confident that I will be able to get into schools that give “good” financial aid, like ivies and vandy.

is anyone else going crazy waiting? Lol I can’t wait any longer are Steinhardt MCC majors really one of the last ones to hear back?

@ObLiViOuSx99 i think it depends on what you plan to do after you graduate. You also have to take into consideration if you plan on going to grad school because that can be very costly as well but going to a school like NYU for undergrad could definitely help you get into the more competitive grad schools. For me, I’m planning on going to law school right after i graduate. I would wait until you hear from some more of the schools you applied to before committing because if they are a better school and substantially cheaper that might be the better route but it’s all a matter are of what you feel is right for you

@XiHalo117 same

Have any English majors heard back yet? My second school needs their deposit by the first and I’m starting to get pretty edgy haha.

@ObLiViOuSx99 in my opinion debt is not worth it.

@jstax89 Thank you for your feedback. I’m not “in love” with the idea of going to NYU, however, I’m just worried I will be rejected from my other more competitive schools. Do you think it is possible to ask for an extension in deciding whether to go or not?

@ObLiViOuSx99
What are your stats?

1,450 SAT (Not superscored, one sitting)
GPA: 4.0

You’re pretty good, but then again you never know with Ivy’s. Go ask for an extension. Also obviously Ivy’s would be the smart choice, but idk if it’s worth taking on the risk of declining NYU. Actually worst case scenario just pay your deposit and withdraw if you get accepted by an ivy. Losing the deposit is still a lot less than paying for NYU over an ivy.

@Vincent1997 Thanks for the feedback. That is exactly what I was thinking as well. I don’t really want to give up a school like NYU over the relatively small chance of getting into an ivy. I will still have to negiotiate finances with my parents but I will probs put a deposit on NYU first.
