NYU Fall 2020 Transfer

So they actually responded to my initial email around 1 1/2 days after my initial email. Then, after I filled out the form, they approved my extension within 3 minutes…

@kaon That’s awesome!!! For how much longer is the extension and who did you email?

Hi! I have applied to NYU-CAS (public policy) as an external transfer student for fall 2020. I am currently a freshman at Hofstra University. I really want to know if I have a good chance of getting in, and am open to your guys’ opinions.

High school was hard for me because I lived in an abusive household and suffered from PTSD. I went from a 4.1 in freshman year to getting every letter in my later years.
Stats: 3.4/3.0 GPA (weighted/unweighted)
1340 SAT
3 AP classes & all of the honors classes available at my school
AP Scholar
I did the school newspaper and won a state award for graphic design and writing.
I worked at a restaurant part-time for 3 years.
I did weightlifting since junior year and spent 10+ hours per week doing that.
Other than that I don’t have many outstanding achievements.

In college I have really worked my ass off because I regret my lackluster performance in high school. My professors really like me and I got 2 LOR that are great. Also, I think I wrote satisfactory (at least) essays.
Stats:
4.0 (& expected 4.0 again this semester; I’ve opted for no pass/fail grades)
Philosophy club member
Democrat Club-Public Relations Chair
Republican Club member
Humor club (ha ha Hofstra) member
Provost Scholar

I’ve volunteered at local 5Ks frequently for 6 years.

What are my chances of getting in?

Has anyone been admitted as a nursing student?

I got a 1-week extension  which is alright. It iz wat it iz.

Is some of this info from high school?

Two questions:

  1. Does NYU offer housing to transfer students who enroll?
  2. Is tuition and financial aid the same for each of the undergraduate divisiions? I am considering switching my application to the School of Professional Studies. It doesn't require the CSS Profile. Does this mean that less financial aid would be offered?

On the CommonApp Transfer, it asked if we’d be interested in being considered for the School of Professional Studies if we’re rejected from a different division.? If we said yes, do they automatically consider us for the SPS Division?

I am not sure about the second question, but for housing we have to apply. It is not guaranteed, and I think after I submitted my housing app they said I would hear back by the end of May if I was being offered housing or not.

Does anyone know of a transfer group chat or facebook page?

My checklist just went away!! Does this mean i’m gonna get my decision soon?? Did this happen for anyone else?

not necessarily, lots of people’s checklists have been gone since early april and are still waiting for a decision (like me)

my check list is still ~alive and well~

@Yankeefan20

For your first question, like @af1113 said, we have to apply for housing by May 1st (which is this Friday) and they’ll let us know by the end of May/Early June. I contacted the Center for Student Life and they said the following:

"Most transfer students do live off campus though their first semester since housing is so limited on campus. From the experience that I have heard from the TSAs and from other transfers, it can be a stressful process, especially if you are coming from out of state and unfamiliar with NYC. But, all students do secure housing, it can just be a bit of a process. NYC apartment hunting can be a competitive process where an apartment is listed one day and off the market the next. I don’t mean to say this to cause any scare, just the reality and it is better to know ahead of time. But there are a number of NYU students who are also in the same boat and NYU has a Housing Registry that is an online portal for NYU students ONLY who are also searching for housing or have rooms opening up in their apartments. Those that do live off campus typically either live somewhere close to campus where they can walk to class, but we also have students who commute from Brooklyn, Queens or elsewhere in the city. "

I’m personally not applying for on-campus housing because of COVID-19, and there are a number of off-campus housing that’s near campus (since I heard that some on-campus housing they give students may be further from school). I would recommend looking at their website more.

For your second question, I’m actually not sure. I haven’t gotten my financial aid yet and I’ve been admitted to Gallatin. The two other people I know that have been admitted haven’t gotten theirs either. I would recommend contacting undergraduate admissions directly

Best of luck!

Does people already receive rejections? Or only acceptance at this time?

does that deadline apply even if you haven’t received a decision by that date?

@kychi19 how are they expecting people to apply for housing by May 1st if we didn’t hear back yet?

Could be evidence that they’re done releasing acceptances.

Did anyone here apply for Tisch - Film&TV?

Hi, I just saw all answers in this thread. No one has been admitted to CAS Econ major? I am still waiting for the decision.
