@Rocky I didn’t get LSPed (you like that functional shift?), but why are you so obsessed with the stats? NYU doesn’t seem like the school to accept students blindly on their numbers. Get real.

This thread stresses me out so much but I just keep reading…

In 4 days I’m either screaming my lungs out or crying my eyes out _
it seems so real yet unreal 4 more days.

I completely agree. I really do believe NYU is truly a school that holistically reviews a student’s application. Last year about 30 people from our school (we only have a class around 150) applied, yet 3 was accepted. 1 with a GPA of 3.2, 1 with 3.7~8ish, and 1 with 4.0. There were SOOO many outstanding students, yet NYU accepted these 3 three students of different ranges. Of course, ECs+Recs do play a significant part of the process, but we never know who and what exactly type of student NYU wants.
/sigh/

@jake360 I feel the exact same way

Do you guys think that NYU cares a little, a medium amount, or a lot that I’m a dual citizen, lived 10 years in Brazil, and speak three languages (Portuguese, Spanish, English)?

In order words, do you guys think that NYU cares a lot about multicultural backgrounds?

anything to check off that sacred hispanic box

@rogehen I believe so. The counselor at my school told me that NYU wants diversity. I think we share similar background (live in china for 13 years and speak more than one language fluently)

Im pretty sure asian is the majority at stern so chinese would not add diversity

Oh F me I think I checked the “other” box instead of the “Hispanic” box since I’m technically Latino

forgive me for my stats obsession. I just feel like NYU is fine with lesser grades OR lesser test scores not both. Another perseverating question, what do you guys think is the importance of an upward trend.

Hey , i have couple of questions
- whats the word limit of the NYU supplement?
2.i live in NC with my mom, but my dad lives in NYC. will i be considered instate or outstate on the HEOP section of Common app? - is state residency a factor in the admission process??
- what’s my chance of getting into stern. is it worth a shot?

Yeah I know for a fact that stern is like 50 percent asian so that doesn’t help with diversity. Also, rocky, upward trend is good for any school. like to see that you’re improving. I’ve had a flat line pretty much but it won’t hurt me. Only thing that will hurt is a downward trend, which shows negligence and laziness. At least that is implied. I dunno.

I don’t think any of us are entitled to judge how the school performs, but with a school of such caliber and application pool, you can’t look at the application process simply as stats. We only have a couple of days left until we find out whether we meet the proper criteria.

@rogahen: Don’t you worry, because you are going to get in. Your personality,integrity an maturity is showing on your posts and it will probably come through on your essays!

@emilyy5117: Wow! Really curious about the demographics of your school where 20% of student body applies to NYU but only 10% gets admitted. What are the other popular schools they apply to? Just looked at our Naviance and over the the last 3 years at my D’s school (yes I am a mom), only about 2% of a class around 520-540 applies, but each year we have an acceptance rae of about 50% to NYU.

@asiankid1996

go for it! you never know until you try.

in-state is based on state of highest income

@pennydogman

I go to a private school in LA, where most of our kids get accepted into UC schools~ mainly UCLA (i believe last year 13 or so got accepted) and every year at least 1 Ivy school. and other schools like USC/Northwestern/UChicago/etc.

the popularity for NYU is increasing every year but acceptances really aren’t that high. Every year there are a only a few acceptances. so hopefully I am able to become part of that few :)

@emilyy5117-thanks! That is very interesting. Good luck and hopefully you will get accepted!
