NYU(NY) ED1 2018 Discussion

This is from @eastcoastkid3

According to my admission counselor, NYU no longer recalculates. In their program guide it said they did, but she told me that has to be updated and they no longer do. I wish they did, it would actually bring my GPA up. Oh well–they’re still looking at classes taken/scores all as one package.

“We don’t actually recalculate GPAs any longer, so that figure may or may not be accurate. Your high school performance is just one of many aspects of your application review. We also look at the rigor of your coursework, testing, recommendations and written pieces.”

I’m below the average SAT since I got a 2010 but my GPA is right on par with the average accepted from my school (4.9). Do you guys think that’s a big deal? I know the process is holistic but is my SAT score too low?

@rocky hm, I think that might be a stretch. They must obviously see your course rigor and adjust accordingly. If you’re taking 5 more AP’s than another student and still have the same GPA, obviously something must be readjusted. Perhaps not completely, but for the most part.

@rogahen There have been many students who have gotten into stern with that SAT score. Obviously the average is like 2150 ish but you also have to understand that like 40-50 percent of stern is asian, and I believe you said you were a different nationality with (im assuming) good EC’s. Im sure it won’t be a problem.

see im the opposite incredibly strong ACT (33) and really poor GPA 3.1ish. I do have an upward trend and a good story so hopefully I’m good.

@BusinessGeek95 haha yeah the Stern average SAT is yanked up by those genius Asians…hopefully the fact that I spent most of my life in Brazil will help a little.

@rocky12377 That’s funny how we’re in an opposite situation…would you rather have a high GPA and a relatively low SAT or low GPA with a relatively high SAT?

well I applied directly to LSP so idk what that does to my chances. thoughts? and I think high test scores. Test scores are standardized.

My friend is a student at NYU and she got in with a 1700 something SAT. So as far as test scores, I think they definitely look more into your application than just your statistics.

A 1700!? Wow that’s super low for NYU…gives me hope.

@rocky I hear LSP is easier to get into so it would therefore increase your chances

@rocky i’m in the same boat as you and i applied to the bpe program at stern so i’m so scared!! I have a 3.75 (W, my school doesnt UW) and a 2260 SAT, 710 Math II and 700 USH. I’m hoping that my essay talking about how i lived and went to school in China for 6 months that and the fact that my aunt was a Stern graduate will help me.

Soooo nervous… Ughh

I really hope they place me in LSP. Would be awesome.

Really don’t wanna get rejected while in school…can you imagine being rejected and then having to sit in school for many more hours?

At this point I’m accepting the fact that since my FA status hasn’t changed that I got rejected. Oh well at least I won’t be too disappointed Friday when emails come our.

@rogahen Thats why im turning off all notifications on my phone then come home and check email

What time will you guys be checking for your results?

this whole “early morning” thing is going to drive me crazy

@RCLVRR-Hang in there! Don’t lose hope :)

@edward0328 That’s probably the smartest thing to do but the fact that my decision might or might not be in my email inbox will drive me insane. I think I’ll probably check my phone 100 times throughout the school day while not focusing on anything else.

Ugh, I really don’t wanna get rejected while in school, but how am I supposed to focus in school knowing that my decision could be sitting in my inbox waiting for me unopened?

@spongebob

I have similar stats & also applied stern. but like another girl here, I applied for marketing (should have done international business)
BUT

i hope NYU reviews holistically…my grades aren’t superb like they should be for an asian (yes im asian i know)

i hope they look outside the gpa/sat box and like me as a person LOL
